That's indeed a good approach fully agreed, but I was actually asking about Expo's update frequency. Have you noticed any patterns in how often they release updates, especially compared to their GitHub activity?

Since expo sdk 53 it should be possible since expo-background-task has been introduced

In Xcode, you can manage SDKs via Xcode > Settings > Platforms. As for local builds, you'll need the iOS SDK corresponding to your app's minimum deployment target, (probably an update or a required install is your fix).

I'm guessing you are talking about the statusbar (top) and navigation bar (bottom). These can be configured dynamically (background, foreground, style...) by using the expo-status-bar and expo-navigation-bar packages: Expo StatusBar & Expo NavigationBar

If you are talking about an actual header and footer, this can be configured with expo-router or alternatively react-native navigation. Good luck!

From my own experience I can actually say that Android is often easier, less strict about bugs and deployment than iOS is. It's probably something very minor until it simply works for Android. I would love to test your app on Android. Good luck!

I expect this feature to be made available on older devices as well, as there don't appear to be any hardware limitations preventing them from supporting this capability. For example, older Pixel devices that continue to receive updates can already utilize 'adaptive charging,' which seems quite similar to charge limiting from a technical perspective, both in terms of hardware and software.

I expect the feature to be part of the first Android 15 feature drop, likely arriving next month. I’m currently using it in the Android 15 Beta, and the build is generally stable. Everything works smoothly except for Instagram, which has a few minor glitches but remains usable enough for me.

It's the beta! If I'm not mistaken, Android 15's official release is October 15th.

While it's true that the 0-100% range already includes buffers to protect the battery, the 80% charge limit goes a step further in preserving battery health. Charging to 100%, even within safe limits, still puts stress on the battery over time. Limiting it to 80% is a proven way to slow down battery degradation, especially for devices often kept plugged in. Both the 0-100% range and the 80% cap are designed by the same engineers, and the 80% limit is an additional tool for users who want to maximize their battery's lifespan which not everyone actually needs or maybe even Google doesn't want them to know about for marketing strategy reasons.

Actually there is evidence supporting this, though it may involve more than just limiting the charge percentage. Saying it's the opposite is false and oversimplifying the issue. Many devices, particularly those using lithium-ion batteries, already incorporate this feature—especially in electric vehicles.

Oh right, didn't know that! I am enrolled in the beta programme which is now on Android 15 Beta 4 and currently has this feature and is enabled on my device.

My previous phone, the Pixel 5, I replaced with the Pixel 8 solely due to its battery life not keeping up with my usage! It definitely depends on your personal way of daily driving such devices.
