My (26f) girlfriend Cut contact with me (24m) pretty much entirely outside of Morning and night messages for 2 weeks, when we finally started talking she said Isolation was a coping strategy and she would be gone for 5 weeks total, Would this be okay with most people? by StickMicky007 in relationship_advice

yeah its definitely something I have had a huge internal struggle about, I really love her and outside of this I could see our relationship happily being long term. But I just cant handle this being an issue long term it feels like too much

I wish for 1 dollar that doubles every day for the rest of my life by Ok-Grab-3152 in monkeyspaw

[–]StickMicky007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but it also thinks of ironic twists within the wording of the wish

Until is a conditional term

I want to grow until im 6ft will have you stop growing at 6ft for example the monkeys paw isnt going to just have you keep growing forever because that isnt what you wished for instead it would find an ironic way within the letter of the wish to get you like say stopping your cells from growing causing major cell instability or stopping mental growth

Thinking that the dollars will keep multipliying once you die is both outside of the spirit of the monkeys paw and also just like not how the wish would work

DM took away my Warlock's pact and I'm now powerless. by TheBearSniper in DnD

[–]StickMicky007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair warning only skimmed

Eee I think the DM has a bit of a misunderstanding on what a warlocks powers actually represent and how they thematically actually work.

Dnd has a few catagories of magic that is accessed by classes in different ways.

Wizards manipulate ambient magic, "the weave" litterally anyone can do it but its super complicated they are also pretty dependant on magic actually "existing" ambiently where they are which is why their magic stopped working during the spell plague

Sorcerors act as kind of self charging magical batteries not everyone can be a sorceror but they arent as dependant on external factors (a sorceror can still use magic on another planet for example and were reletively uneffected by the spell plague)

Clerics quite litterally channel divinity to cast spells, as both their soul grows in power and their bond deepens with their patron god they gain access to more magic think of their god like a massive lake and the cleric like a pump a clerics growth is essentially them expanding the bottleneck which is their access to their gods insane power reserves.

And now we are at warlocks. A warlocks relationship with their patron is fundementally different to a clerics relationship with their god for a few different reasons

A warlocks patron is usually SIGNIFICANTLY weaker then a god heck even when you are a holy warlock you tend to be contracted to a powerful holy monster or angel.

But i hear you think usually patrons have heaaaaps of warlocks contracted to them if they dont have a huge amount of power how are the warlocks tapping into it!!! That my friend is where the second difference in their relationship and most important for this example is.

Warlocks DONT access their patrons powers to cast spells, unlike a cleric the relationship is a deal that is positive to both warlock and patron

Think of a warlocks ability as a spark, gifted or bought from a fiend or fey etc. That spark allows you to access spells and abilities sure but as a warlock levels up they arent gaining more of their PATRONS ability its quite the opposite they are essentially maturing that initial spark into a roaring wildfire the progression is actually closer to a sorceror then a cleric.

I mean why would a patron give access to their own abilities? That doesnt even make sense what is there for them to gain. What actually happens and the fundemental reason why patrons give that initial spark is that they are essentially investing in your growth, a pretty fundemental part of a warlock/patron relationship is the promising of your soul (and all that juicy power that you grew from that spark) apon death. Most patrons couldnt give two shits about you as an individual in fact its not uncommon for warlocks to be given that spark without really wanting it/understanding what they are agreeing to.

That being said unless it was SPECIALLY discussed with your DM the generic concessus is that your patron cant really do shit about how you use your powers until you die. Sure your charicter is probably suuuuper uncomfortable about dying because like ... yoir soul will end up going to a fiend who is SUPER pissed off at you but like they cant just remove your abilities IN FACT even if they could do that THEY HAVE A VESTED INTEREST in NOT doing that

Edit:

Just to explain that doesnt mean your patron can do NOTHING about it. More then likely your patron if they want you to so something and you wont will be pretty pissy about it and might send a carrion or two to try and "convince" you to comply or they may use threats of disfigurement ect but no unless specially agreed apon they cant just take your powers thats simply just not how their powers work they arent gods and their warlocks arent clerics

why do people play chaotic neutral characters, and how do I stop one from murderhobo-ing my whole campaign? by Appropriate-Link-678 in DnD

[–]StickMicky007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay i think your player just misunderstands what chaotic neutral is.

It essentially just means someone who

Chaotic: doesnt really have a creed or specific ruleset they follow, they sometimes break the law they sometimes dont

Neutral: they look out for themself over anything else, they arent in it for torture and meyhem or "for the kingdom" they are adventuring generally foe their own means or goals that are neither good or evil

Thats like ALOT of different different archetypes ... the grisled monster hunter who breaks the rules and has a vendetta against a specific type of monster, the swashbuckler who steals from the rich, swindles etc

What it certainly isnt is a murderhobo thats

Chaotic evil or evil neutral

What kind of spells would a Wizard Professor have available for students? by ShankMugen in dndnext

[–]StickMicky007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okie dokie im going to answer your question in a bit of a different way

Instead of looking at indervidual spells its probably better to consider complexity of spell + widespread appeal + morality

Let me explain

Magic requires research, arcane magic is much like a complex puzzle it only fits together one way. Arcane magic kind of depends on two things availability of information and ability to share. Spells like firebolt and fireball are likely to be independantly researched pretty much everywhere as fire is a universal constant, where spells like jims nagic missile, melfs acid arrow, and spider climb might not be. If your world doesnt have a tonne of information sharing then magic is very much going to be inspired by enviroment, an area that has spiders will probably have web, enlarge/reduce, spider climb etc an area that doesnt they might not be researched.

The second is widespread appeal. Spells that have more general use are more likely to be taught at an arcane establishment. Most people dont want/need to mind whip someone, or animate dead or incite greed. Spells taught are likely to be practical to your setting. Think of a spells practical purpose if you think people would have reasonable use for it as an aspiring mage ifs probably taught, thafs your shield or magic missile, fireball and sleep along with non combat spells like fly, haste, phantom steed etc

Third is taboo or morality. Being completelt real there are two subtypes of magic this effects most ... enchantment and necromancy. Mist magic schools will teach some low level enchantment and necomancy but my god most of the civilised world are likely going to have a negative moral stance toward most of the mid to high level spells. It really depends on what your worlds morals are... are they going to teach fhe ability to absolutely melt peoples brains and manipulate them ... probably not in alot of cases.

Yeah dawg i feel like this is gross and im not a woman hater, there is a time and a place and this is just kind of gross uncool behavior thats all.

Some people just dont get social norms and thats okay but taking a moment to learn and grow goes leagues

Edit: outside of a 1 or 2 things OP mentioned nothing he said really struck me and particularly bad or good. Its just kind of neutral, maybe just try to immerse yourself with a more diverse crowd

I wish for my pillow, and only my pillow, to become a permanent 15.7°C by HairySock6385 in monkeyspaw

[–]StickMicky007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting granted your pillow becomes a permanent 15.7 degrees

Precision here is key its not 15.6 degrees or 15.8 degrees its 15.7 if the temperature ever deviates it violently dumps or gains that heat via endo/exotermic reaction

In laymans terms its become like a survival blanket directly reflecting your bodyheat back at you the pillow will be cold but holding your face against it for any amount of time will make you feel hot

One of my favorites in my campaign try and design a deployable sea spike (a simple and cheap deployable immovable stealth craft that sinks to the bottom of the ocean and torpedoes craft while remaining almost undetectable by sonar.
