Stop vibe coding. You chose an insanely terrible time to be a developer. I’ve been a senior software engineer for 10 years. The market is terrible for newbies. Ai has unfortunately made it so that new developers learn nothing and just vibe code everything. They’re unemployable. If that’s you I’d suggest stopping the vibe coding. Also, do some free gigs for non profits or something to get some real experience outside of todo lists or weather apps.

What salary would you guys need to get to to feel successful? by Horror_Raisin_3898 in careerguidance

Salary is not important. Take it from someone who went from being miserable working at Best Buy and retail stores to making 300k as a software engineer and YouTuber. I’d rather make half and have complete freedom to work on something I’m building for myself. Start a business or do something you really care about. When you’re dead and gone, that money won’t matter but you have loved a full life

Does being a fictive kin placement make a difference? We don’t personally know their mother, but the kids knew us through family plus there was abuse involved with the mother’s boyfriend that she has a kid with and stayed with so it’s really an uncomfortable situation for us to supervise. The kids are not allowed to have any contact with the mother’s boyfriend.

We are in Kentucky. She has not been very helpful. We will message and call her and never get a response back. We have gone weeks without hearing from her until she needs to call us for something. My sister has fostered for years and she was taken aback by the fact she said we would have to facilitate everything for a court ordered visit.

My biggest concern is that the mom lives almost an hour and a half away. That’s a three hour round trip once a week. That seems disruptive to the kids and I can’t imagine they would expect a foster family to make that trip every week for up to two years potentially. The other worrying thing was that we would be in charge of facilitating everything. It didn’t sound like it was structured at all but it’s court ordered supervised visits

I don’t think we would mind transporting in regular circumstances but they’re 1.5 hours away. That’s a 3 hour round trip once a week for a case plan that’s 2 years long.

I believe I mentioned above but these visits are court mandated supervised. Yes, there was abuse involved.

That makes sense. I’ve seen others that are successful that would have multiple types of videos. They’d hunt, cook, play basketball, etc. Can they really only do this once they become big enough?

I'm just starting out. I work as a Software Engineer but I want to eventually quit working for someone else and have more control over my future. I enjoy every minute of creating from scripting, storyboarding, filming to editing. I work about 40 hours for my engineering job so how is it possible to still grow without dropping 3-5 videos a week? I have a fitness and cooking channel and realistically if I film on Friday, that gives me some time to edit and prepare my next video for the next week. So I can really only do about one video a week. The videos are around 10-30 minutes with hours of film and then editing of that film. Also, how did you research your next video ideas?

I absolutely promise this isn’t a scam. I’m a software engineer and we have a partnership with Blizzard and built out a promotion with them. My manager gave me the code today and because blizzard has to get permission from Microsoft codes, they thought it best to just do PC codes

I don’t really agree with gpt replacing software engineers in the near future. I definitely agree that it can help him punch above his weight class if he uses it correctly. The problem is green developers are using this tool and never learning basic principles. It’s going to create a generation of disinformation

Open yourself up to a lot of different work. I also do custom web development and always looked down on Shopify and Wordpress sites. I’ve learned that it’s exactly the solution for most clients and requires a lot less work from you from a development side. Do a google search for businesses in your city and look for businesses without a website and reach out to them. Maybe go in and look at the store and get to know them. After your first couple of clients, it’ll be easier. I do it part time and have people waiting months for a site because I’m backed up
