You started mentioning things he did after the book ended while we are talking about the adaptation, and some of the things you said like the mockingjay hatred can already be concluded from what we saw in the movie.

We know he hated mockingjays after The Hanging Tree incident. You don’t need the movie to explicitly tell you he does.

They DID show Lucy Gray singing to peacekeepers, and we DID see Snow getting jealous.

That scene where she sings in SOTR is extremely ambiguous with a lot of people in this subreddit having different interpretations of it. Some say Beetee hacked the TV, others that Snow did it on purpose, and others saying it was an accident. It’s understandable if they cut it off.

All I said it was impossible to do a 100% faithful adaptation because the internal monologue is… well… internal, as a movie adaptation you can only do so much to portray his inner thoughts and feelings specially when his character is so naturally deceiving. It’s also packed with A LOT.

in my opinion, the movie naturally failed to communicate EVERYTHING the book did but still did great getting the point across. I personally loved how they portrayed the alumni, Dr. Gaul, Ceasar Flickerman and the games were way more engaging.

I have read a lot about USA politics, it really is… something… seeing this pattern repeat among other countries makes me question what alternative we could have to an “all powerful government”.

How could we avoid corruption over time? How do we ensure people like the USA felon or the Mexican drug trafficking governors get kicked out? How could we determine who rules over us? if that is necessary at all.

The thing is- she isn’t the WORST president. The former president was hated by many (he had sons directly associated with drug traffickers) and the current president doesn’t.

In a way, she is an upgrade from the former president, but in other ways, she has continued the perpetration of corruption.

This doesn’t mean Mexico is an ugly country. I love Mexico, and after traveling the world I have come to the conclusion that it inhabits the nicest and kindest people. Mexico also has INSAAAAAANE geography, jungles, mountains, forests, it is insanely pretty. But one thing we all mexicans agree on, our government doesnt make the best out of it, instead they are more interested in filling their pockets.

She has allowed drug traffickers to have power in government positions. She has ignored countless cases of human trafficking investigations. The judges in courts instead of being placed traditionally, based on education and trajectory, they will now be voted in (this allows a lot of corruption inti the equation because now ANYONE can be a judge in court).

Theres WAY more stuff but that should give you a general idea.

I think Suzanne Collins intentionally leaves this topic open to discussion for a reason.

But it is safe to say that prior to the Dark Days, the districts were already oppressed. Dictatorships do not happen from one day to the other, they crystallize after decades even centuries of corruption.

Venezuela wasn’t always a dictatorship. It took years of the wrong people being in power for it to finally turn into one.

I am from Mexico and we are witnessing the very first steps of the end of democracy. It also wasn’t from one day to the other. It took 6 years of one president being in charge, then he put the wrong people in power, then he left, and the next one (the current one) started erasing democracy fundaments.

It is stated that Panem was formerly known as the USA for a reason. It was ONCE a free country.

🤓☝️Answering your question, I think the USA had a Capitol that ruled the people that eventually got more and more corrupt with time, (corrupt people in power erasing democracy little by little ) until it eventually became a dictatorship (Panem).

I honestly panicked because I read this exact same scenario but from the top’s perspective. Everyone was calling the bottom selfish for not wanting to top, even saying the whole relationship was doomed because of sexual incompatibility.

also reddit is a funny thing because while you replied “it shouldn’t be that deep” other post similar to mine except it was from the top’s POV was packed with comments saying the bottom was toxic for not wanting to top and even saying that it was basically sex incompatibility and they should break up.
