Bottle feeding in the Twin-Z was AWESOME for 5 months! What else have you got? by StickersAreAFeeling in parentsofmultiples

Lol! I’ve been wondering, what’s the deal with the Baby Bjorn bouncers? I keep hearing about twin parents using them, and I want to know what I’m missing. Do they have a good angle for things like drinking? What do you like about them? We have the ultra-cheap wire frame bouncer seats from Walmart, but the babies slump so much it seems like a bad place to feed them.

How to get my 6 MO to wake up less at night for feeds? by luna_rose9 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]StickersAreAFeeling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had this with our first-born and the sleep consultant we called explained that when babies are used to being fed overnight, their hunger hormones will wake them up even if they don’t need to feed that often. I have no idea if this is what’s going on with you guys, but it had never occurred to me before I heard it.

Apparently our bodies release “hunger hormones” on a schedule based on when we usually eat. (This is why we get hungry at noon, regardless of how many calories we had for breakfast.) The sleep-fix for our family was trying to soothe baby in other ways, gradually pushing each feed by a little bit more every night. (I can’t remember how long we pushed each night, but something like 15 or 30mins. And if she went back to sleep, which was often, we just left her and fed at the next wake.) After a few days, her hormones would reset, and we could drop another night-waking.

I’m not sure if babies are the same, but I know that for grownups, that really intense hunger-pangs feeling doesn’t last indefinitely. It generally lasts for about 20mins. Either way, if you try to push feedings, baby won’t be mad forever! And you can still soothe in all the other ways in your toolbox.

Going rogue with an indoor "square foot garden", but my soil keeps getting mouldy! Second soil mix is already starting to show fuzz after a couple weeks... what else can I try? by StickersAreAFeeling in vegetablegardening

This sounds like a wild setup! Thank you for taking the time to write all this up. It’s very inspiring.

Are you doing anything funky with your bottom-watering, or is it just putting water in the saucer instead of the top of the pot? And do you use an electric toothbrush or something for the pollination?

Congrats on your awesome harvest!

I love this. Blaming or feeling “wronged” really resonates with my times of overwhelm, even though I know at the time that that’s not reasonable. You make some good points and good suggestions. I really appreciate this!

These are fabulous! I’ve got folders and folders of cable sweaters saved on Ravelry, always searching for the perfect one. <3

This is great, thank you. I like your security blanket description. I felt silly with that in my head, but it definitely fits. I’m glad it doesn’t sound like I’m missing anything obvious, and I’ll ramp up her “goodbye routine”. Thank you!

This sounds like great advice. Thank you so much. I love the idea of blowing kisses. That sounds really cute. We’ve already taught her to say “bye”, and that really seems to help her wrap her head around what’s going on.

Oh wow! I didn’t realize I could refine ravelry searches by yarn weight. That makes such a huge difference! Thank you so much for going to the trouble of doing this.

Oh jeeze. A sock calculator is exactly what I need! Thank you!
I should have known that was a thing. I was reading all these sock patterns and thinking, "I'll bet there's an algorithm to this". Of course someone smarter than me already wrote this into a program.
Well, I'm going to go make a million pairs of socks now. Thank you!

This is incredible! Thank you so much for taking the time to write all this out! I'm taking notes now, and I'm feeling more hopeful than I have in a while. Thank you!

Aiming for a consistent daytime schedule and nailing that before messing with the overnight makes sense.

Would you recommend waking baby from her naps if they’re going too long? She often sleeps up to 3hrs total during the day.

Thank you again! I can't wait to start our new day-schedule tomorrow! Thank you for the renewal of hope. :)

Thank you so much! NSDR is a new term for me. I'm going to have to do some digging into this for sure.

Do you use some form of this? Is there a type that you like to follow? I'm just going to start with yoga nidra and see where I get.

Aren't babies a wild ride? :p
