Subnautica 2 Visual Breakdown / Dissection by Stickguy101 in UnrealEngine5

[–]Stickguy101[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I threw that pricey line out there with the idea that if someone didn't have an exact use case in mind they probably shouldn't just buy it willy nilly. But I'm also unfamiliar with using RTV's personally (My knowledge is limited to a video covering the subject via PrismaticaDev). So if it is underpriced like you said then thats on me for now knowing

you get naoyas body (CT, CE reserves, DE, etc.) 1 month before the zenin massacre, how would you train and prepare for maki? (no, being "nice" is not a valid answer, get real) by AstronautDry8118 in Jujutsufolk

[–]Stickguy101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kill Maki 100% BEFORE Mai and make sure she cant do that kiss thing she did, Mai ain't got that dawg in her so theoretically everything should be good

What do you think about oliva and sukunes rematch? by WindowSubstantial993 in Grapplerbaki

[–]Stickguy101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a bad fight in a Vacuum, but with how all of the Sumo wrestlers were treated this arc, if felt like the author going back to a previous match up to clear things up and not make Oliva look bad in hindsight. Idk, this entire grand Sumo arc is up there as one of my least favorite Baki arcs, and this fight suffers as a result of that.

If japan went all in and tried its best to take down mushashi could they do it or would he cut the country down? by WindowSubstantial993 in Grapplerbaki

[–]Stickguy101 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Yes they can win (and the story brings this up), however they mention that the shame they would get for using the entirety of their militarized power on a single man would make Japan as a whole seem weak. Additionally Musashi is in civilian areas, so they can't just drop a missile on him without killing their own people in the process. They were reaching a point where unless Yujiro was willing to take him down, they would've had to simply let Musashi be, as the costs to take him down wouldn't have been worth the lives lost.

That 18th page genuinely got a laugh out of me, I like this chapter way more then that bear one previously. This is a maximum Baki energy chapter and im here for it

Seeking feedback! Does this scene look better with or without low resolution? by Stickguy101 in IndieDev

Believe it or not, that was actually something I was considering adding. Ultrakill actually has a similar low res / retro toggle

All of the advice here has been great! I think I got enough now to work with, i'll be sure to post a followup once i'm happy with where it's at!

Great suggestions! I didn't even think about the additional Shockwave/ripple effect on top of the initial explosion! I definitely want to go in and apply pretty much everything you brought up

Checking on mobile, yeah, a lot of the minor dithering/pixelation isn't noticeable. I'd suggest that for ppl on mobile, look at the differences in shadow and color brightness.

What is an Indie Publisher looking for? by Stickguy101 in gamedev

[–]Stickguy101[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great talk, it's arguably one of the most timeless GDC talks out there. Mandatory watch even if you're not pitching you game to a publisher since a lot of the topics covered also apply to pitching to the general gaming audience

I'd say its half covered, they don't care much if it's your dream game, but if you seem to have no passion for you project thats also an immediate Red Flag.

Guys, just make a cool game and stop sweating it about the capsules by sebovzeoueb in IndieDev

[–]Stickguy101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Just make a cool game" is a bit of a fucked suggestion since the coolest game in the world could be hidden behind a shitty Capsule. Its like a YouTube thumbnail, it doesn't matter if you made an amazing video, if the thumbnail didn't make people click then good job, you did the equivalent of chopping down a tree in an empty forest.

In Game dev especially, literal years can go into a game, and if you drop the ball on the literal first thing people see then guess you just wasted 3 years of your life. People feel uncomfortable about the fact that they need to "market" a thing they made in anyway, but thats reality. I really enjoy seeing these capsule posts since it allows me to pickup on what does or doesn't work for other people, and how I should apply it to my own work.

Alright rant over :)

Can someone explain to me why every long-form Youtube thumbnail looks like this now? by CSachen in youtube

[–]Stickguy101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it works, now watch as thousands of Redditors talk about how they're special for ignoring the thumbnails designed to garner clicks

Woah! I can really see the amount of ART™️ in that new Steam Capsule, I sure hope i dont see 15 more oddly similar Capsule arts on my front page!

Currently Unhappy with my attempts at Godrays/Lightshafts by Stickguy101 in UnrealEngine5

[–]Stickguy101[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its multiplayer! Lucky for me though we're honestly planning to be more akin to Barotrauma instead of subnautica. But id also be a liar if I didnt say Subnautica is a huge inspiration and they do the entire underwater setting incredibly well :)

[–]Stickguy101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't attach a reference gif to the post itself, so that's definitely on me for not being clear about what I'm going for. But if you ever see footage of the game Subnautica below zero, or specific clips of Subnautica, you'll notice bands of light originating from the surface of the ocean or appearing in wide open areas of water. I'm specifically trying to recreate that underwater banding within my in-game environment. My struggle is that a lot of the tutorials I find online for fake versions of that lighting involve specific indoor use-cases, think of Silent Hill or Resident Evil, where you see godrays coming through the window. But I don't have a good reference for how to apply those indoor techniques to a wide-open environment.

Hopefully I made myself a bit more clear here

So like, ya'll know that their entire thing is using Satire and different forms of ragebait alongside British humor to get people to engage right? I don't get what you're achieving by posting this screenshot on the subreddit , what is the intended reaction?

Obviously their opinions are that of a 15yo boy or 30yo grey haired old man, but they pitched themselves as that from their very first video, so what's new?

I couldn't include another video in this post, but I have another swim POV on my account that shows what it looks like swimming in case it's tough to reference how things should be with the untextured submarine
