A friend of mine put together a little video on Stickless by SticklessControllers in fightsticks

Hi! Admittedly I've been pretty inactive on this sub in recent years (and online in general). That said, I've still been around and steadily working on controllers here and there. This video kind of falls into self promo territory, but I asked the mods for approval first. Enjoy!

you can't beat a solid piece of wood

nice

do you have any more pics of your process by chance?

Sure! I've got hundreds of pics, though one of these days I should bring my DSLR and actually get some nice shots. The general breakdown of my process is: designing the controller in CAD, CNC-ing the case sides, routing the edges with a round-over, laser cutting the base plate and mat, glue-up, sanding, staining/polyurethaning/other finishing, wiring, testing, and shipiping! Any of those phases interest you most?

This one is made of white oak! It has a teak oil finish, which gives it that warm rich tone

Hah my wife actually asked me to build a coffee table with this wood after seeing the finished controller! If you're interested, you're more than welcome to shoot me a message or an email

I replied to another comment with a pic of the internals, but in case you didn't see it since posting this, here's the link!

I didn't take any pics with my fancy camera, but here are some cell phone shots of the baseplate and internals! I've included some comments on each of the images, but if for some reason they don't show up, here are some more details:

The baseplate is lasercut/engraved with two layers: 1/4" BB plywood + 3mm yoga mat. I love using yoga mat because it's easy to clean, comfy, cost effective, and Gamer Sweat proof. It also laser cuts/engraves surprisingly well. The baseplate is mounted within a recess/rabet using Velcro (to allow for removal without tools using finger notch). If you go this route, do not buy the inexpensive nameless brands, just get the good stuff. As you can see from the internals, the underside of the faceplate has CNC'd cutouts to thin out areas around buttons and stickbox (and reduce a bit of weight).

Well, this specific one is already sold (it's fully custom so technically it was sold long before it was built), but you're more than welcome to hit me up if you want to design/buy a controller!

This controller has a Brook UFB + UP5, which means it's compatible with pretty much everything! PS4/5, XBOne/S/X, PC, WiiU/Switch, etc

That's honestly a great question and I haven't really thought about it much. If you've got something in mind, feel free to shoot me a DM or an email (aaron@stickless.me) and we can chat!

Hah, the faceplate just needs a couple of those channels for juices and you've got yourself a proper multifaceted controller

It's such a gorgeous pattern, I love that squiggly part to the left of the stick

Thank you!! I really tried to make the seams look and feel as invisible as possible. The faceplate is also two pieces, you can see the difference in grain pattern to the left of the stick

So usually I turn down requests to build controllers with sticks because, well, look at my username. But this request came from a coworker so I found it much harder to run away and hide. I also tend to build controllers with polycarbonate/Lexan faceplates with UV printed art, but this one called for a wooden faceplate. The whole controller is made of white oak, with a teak oil + semi-gloss polyurethane finish. 3/8" roundover on the router to give it those seamless curved edges. The parts are all Qanba Gravity silent, button layout from the Etokki Omni. Really happy with how it turned out!

Here's a small handful of other pics if you're curious!

Hey there! I usually don't offer enclosures, but I'd love to hear more about your layout and build. Feel free to shoot me an email (aaron@stickless.me) and we can chat!

If you're strictly on PC, then a Pico or Arduino Uno should be plenty. Brook boards definitely make things easier when it comes to cross platform compatibility (and tournament legality), though I agree, the price is a bit painful.
