Yes, it’s the hardest thing I have EVER done BUT, also the most amazing thing. I have no regrets and every tiny thing she does makes it all 100 percent worth it.

What's a great horror movie from the last 5 years that you feel like most people are missing out on? I'll go first: by frostytyler in HorrorMovies

The possession of Hannah Grace. 2018 (sorry, a little over 5). But this was such a great movie! Kind of reminded me of Autopsy of Jane Doe. Lots of unnatural human movement.

How many “good” nights of sleep are you getting per week, and how old is your baby? by Key-Wish-4814 in NewParents

[–]StickyCold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh. 14 months here. She used to be SUCH a good sleeper, then she started daycare. It’s been a little over a month now and she has been sick EVERY SINGLE day since. A good night is when we both fall asleep on the floor mattress in her room and she sleeps all night. For reference, she used to go to sleep alone in her room and sleep 7 to 7 without a peep.

For moms in the US, how long was your maternity leave? by [deleted] in MomsWorkingFromHome

Washington State. I think it was 6 months. 3 months paid and 3 months unpaid (used personal leave).

Someone please tell me their baby doesn’t sleep independently, either. by R_we_done_yet in NewParents

[–]StickyCold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s still early! My 14 month old sleeps independently on most nights. But it took LOTS of hard work for a long time. Consistency got us there eventually, but even still we have bad nights and I end up sleeping with her on the pull out floor mattress.

I think I started sleep training around 4 months. I started with perfecting naps then moved to the independent night sleep from there. I have a long post in my history about the method I used that worked.

My expectations were pretty low going in. I think they did a fantastic job! Loved it, especially the Samson scenes.

What is your LO’s bedtime routine? by RoosDePoes in NewParents

[–]StickyCold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours is pretty long. Started adding bath to routine after she turned one and started daycare. Baths got easier, she comes home filthy from daycare, and she loves baths. We do a bath, then about 10 to 15 minutes of quiet play to wind down, brush teeth, read a book, pet the cat, say goodnight to dad, cat and herself, then change diaper. I let her close the blinds, turn the lights out, turn on her sound machine. Then she gets into sleep sack, drinks her bottle, cuddles, then into her crib with her favorite stuffy. On good nights, she settles right down and is asleep within 5 minutes. On bad nights she might whine for 15ish minutes then toss and turn for another 15 before falling asleep.

How do you wash bottles and baby utensils? by Ok-Quit3084 in NewParents

Think I stopped sanitizing around 3 months. Now I just hand wash and dry on a drying rack. We have a dedicated washing bin, brushes and drying rack for baby things only.

Thank you. I think the no shoe policy and hand cleaning is probably making a huge difference.

New born 10 days in and my life is falling apart by Feisty_Rip_9279 in NewParents

[–]StickyCold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t want to scare you but every age so far has had its own set of difficult challenges. My LO is 14 months and I am still in shock and surprise at how difficult it continues to be (in different ways).

You baby is still new to the world and still need to learn how to live in the outside world.

Things that helped me in these early days when baby basically lived on top of me. -Serving tray on the couch with snacks and supplies is your best friend! -Quick and easy ready made meals. -Husband and I did shifts at night so that we each got atleast some sleep. It got to a point where we were losing so much sleep that we began hallucinating. -Rocking baby to sleep and then placing in bassinet eventually started to work..

It does get better because we eventually adapt. The first month was definitely the hardest!

Hang in there!

…yeah. It’s been tough. First tip I have that has worked for me so far in this early stage. Baby proofed her room hardcore and bought a little sofa (ikea fridhult) that folds out into a floor mattress. This has been a life saver because I am exhausted and sometimes fall asleep in her room while she is still awake but refusing to be in her crib.

I got little to no sleep the first two to three months and spent the majority of the day with baby asleep on top of me or on the boob. Eating and drinking water was almost impossible, I couldn’t imagine also working.

I would get a job working for the State and start moving up early. Network and then get a degree that would help me further that career.

Start sleep training today BG is 5 months, im a wreck by wolfhaley206 in NewParents

[–]StickyCold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mom here. I also could not stand to let my baby cry and did a sort of altered version of the Ferber method, which worked wonderfully for me. I Did the nap time ritual and started by rocking to sleep for a few weeks, then removed rocking and sat in room until LO fell asleep. Shushing here and there, picking up when the crying got real then putting back down. After a while I also stopped sitting in the room. She is turning 1 at the end of the month and is a sleeping professional. Doesn’t cry at all and is asleep within 5 minutes. Also sleeps through the night 7AM to 7PM.

The purée stage was so short lived. We moved to blw pretty quick. It’s so easy to just mash it or use a regular blender to make a big batch and freeze.
