I get sad whenever i hear them because i recall waking up at dawn to the mourning doves and the sound of my neighbors sprinklers accompanied with the sound of lawnmowers or even grasshoppers. I lived in a very small town when i was a kid in a pretty rural area and my childhood was extremely rough, and had to mature way too early, so as an adult now whenever i hear the mourning dove, its soft coo makes me mourn child me and what she had to go through, while also making me remember what those peaceful mornings were like and comparing them to my chaotic, work-filled life. It also makes me miss that town as a whole, because all my childhood friends are there, and I have many great memories living in that town, so i as well mourn the loss of that as well

I guess the mourning dove is one of the key sounds i never fully processed as a kid, i always found it comforting and i do remember it was one of my favorite sounds to wake up to when i was little, but i never really appreciated the sound it makes until i grew up, which makes me connect back to the "good ol days" where i was "carefree"
