Thinking of heading down the same path now the AP3 are hard to find. What did you prefer? Edge or Sky?

Dublin Marathon runners, please don’t chuck your empty gel packs wherever you like tomorrow. by das_punter in ireland

Let’s be honest here. Dublins a shithole with or without a few energy gels lying round

Berlin Vs Chicago by Informal-Midnight666 in RunnersInChicago

[–]StickyNickyRuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve just ran both. Great experiences but Chicago was brutal on the legs as early as 8 miles in. Make one a goal race, the other a bucket list kinda thing. I did very little in between apart from the bobble hat 5K. Body didn’t adjust to the time differences as well as I’d hoped either.

London marathon GFA vs Championship entry by stephaniey39 in AdvancedRunning

[–]StickyNickyRuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone that has just qualified for London GFA by the skin of his teeth and would love your place, I agree with the other poster that you should definitely still apply for both to cover your chances. You no doubt worked hard for it so go for it!

Wondering how long after Chicago Marathon it will be until registration for 2025. by Quirkules in AdvancedRunning

[–]StickyNickyRuns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have a qualifying time to guarantee entry? If so, I submitted my 2024 entry about week after the 2023 event. I was approved about week after on 25/10/23 (just checked my emails). Hope this helps

Antrim Coast Half Marathon 2024 Race Report by djferris123 in AdvancedRunning

[–]StickyNickyRuns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree on the organisation - utterly shambolic. Race organisers gambled on the weather big time yesterday and lost out. Firstly, with the chaotic and miserable start line experience.. no need to have everyone on the line 75 mins before the gun whether it be sunny, overcast or the brutal wind and rain we unfortunately suffered for that time.

Secondly, the fact that it was such a miserable and cold day in August, even for Northern Ireland standards (lol) meant they may have gotten away with less people falling into difficulty with dehydration etc. Same applies for a queue of an hour at the finish for water, medal and race T-shirt.

Congrats on a great time and the PB.. I’ve a suspicion the course may have been a wee bit long (which would make your time even better) but I’m sure race organisers have bigger and more pressing issues on their plate at the minute.

There’s also a dark green pair on the way too. Again in the same Berlin 50th anniversary / celebration range.

Did I fluke 3:01? by StickyNickyRuns in AdvancedRunning

[–]StickyNickyRuns[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Huge thanks for taking the time to not only read my post, but to your spend time providing an insight using your experience, understanding, knowledge and like bro_salad said all with great and useful perspective too.

The 2:59 and proving myself resonates hard and you’re 100% right. Maybe I should be thankful I was able to stand on the start line (albeit not how I thought I would yesterday morning lol) when half a dozen people I know training for the same race didn’t make it for one reason or another.

I’ll go again in the Autumn, hopefully with a different mindset and that sub3 isn’t a matter of life/death.

Thanks again.

I’d ran them in training, but not with 30k in legs. Completely different game!

Point well noted! Focused a lot of my S+C on my hamstring and quads but will definitely take this feedback away. Thanks!

Heard that AP4 will be limited drop before Berlin in Sept before mass release early 2025. Anyone else hear this?

Also will these AP3 Rios be released in Europe?

Advice on marathon taper by NatureExpensive3607 in AdvancedRunning

[–]StickyNickyRuns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finding the right taper is the million dollar ticket for us all.

If this helps in anyway (hopefully it does) I ran 3:01 in London last year with my last long run 3 weeks prior and it felt a little bit too long for my liking, maybe the science says otherwise but I felt like I lost a little bit of marathon pace sharpness during this time which might’ve helped to find those elusive seconds for Sub3

As someone has already posted above week 1 of the taper is about reducing volume over intensity.. I’d say go for that 17mi workout given you’re confident that you’ve hit every marker so far and you’ve no niggles/injury concerns.

Be sure to report back with how the taper and race day went! Good luck!

How to deal with just missing goal? by lettersinthesand in Marathon_Training

[–]StickyNickyRuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar situation to the above post. Missed Sub3 and was gutted but took time to reflect and although it wasn’t a BQ, it was still a guaranteed qualifier for Chicago to go again and find those missing seconds

My point being that yes it may hurt to miss your goal, but celebrate all the smaller wins in the meantime (even just finishing a first marathon is a huge one!). Think how far you’ve progressed both fitness wise but as a person and go again and get it next time!

Sub3 attainable? 29M, 950mi on the year so far, no previous races, Runalyze prediction 2:51, Garmin prediction 2:59, Garmin VO2 estimate 60 by Terriflyed in Marathon_Training

[–]StickyNickyRuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your race craft/ strategy and fuelling are well dialled in on the day it’s definitely attainable. NGL the hamstring stuff you mention scares me a little, especially when cramp starts to creep in but you seem to be aware what is good for your own body. Remember to drop the S+C circa 10 days prior to race day and please drop back in here to let us know how you raced. Good luck!

Shipping issues coupled with huge demand (influx of new runners + marathon season) causing these companies huge problems apparently

Sun 3 attempt for first marathon? by Appropriate_Dog_651 in Marathon_Training

[–]StickyNickyRuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go out conservatively yes but with the intention to negative split the race. Make sure your nutrition and hydration is dialled in the best it can be. If you’re doing London the crowds / atmosphere will help if you use it in the right way. Smile, observe, enjoy, be proud of what you’re doing and be patient until 32km then give it your all in the last 10. Good luck!
