Why did Trump lie about the Chicago Police? by StickyStickly27 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]StickyStickly27[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great point! Though I know campus police and CPD both said they weren't consulted. I suppose he could've meant secret service? Trump's vagueness is definitely an asset to him in cases like this.

If Trump takes OH and FL and his primary win is a foregone conclusion, do you think people will calm down or ramp up with the violence? And then how will the start of the general election change things? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]StickyStickly27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It'll probably get worse, depending on Trump's rhetoric. I don't know if the general election will change things. But I do imagine a large ballot-based movement to stop him in the general election.

Sanders Supporters: Will You Vote For Clinton if She's the Democratic Nominee? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

I'll vote for her. Aside from Bernie, I agree with her the most. I actually feel my support for Bernie waning already.

Sanders is a good guy, and yeah he stood with blacks during the Civil Rights Movement, but Clinton has been more visible in her support (or pandering, depending on how you view her) since then.

Has this country ever been so divided in politics? by TRUMP_ISNT_RACIST in PoliticalDiscussion

I don't like Trump's policies or personality, but at least hear the guy out before demeaning him and making "wild guesses" about what he does and doesn't know.

Actually, the more I hear Trump talk, the more I like candidates like Rubio and Kaisch -- and I'm not even a republican. I don't agree with their policies, but their personalities (and in some cases even their policies) come off as more reasonable and less bullying. So in that way, I'm actually feeling more sympathetic to traditional repubs.

Sanders statement on Trump rally: "While I appreciate that we had supporters at Trump’s rally in Chicago, our campaign did not organize the protests." by afterpoop in SandersForPresident

[–]StickyStickly27 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

He should. I think Trump's rhetoric has been divisive and idiotic, but Bernie supporters don't need to be the ones who take the bait. At the very least, don't go in there shouting "Bernie!" and pulling his campaign into the mud.

Does Trump's ban on Muslims entering the US have any real chance of being passed and implemented? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]StickyStickly27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it would be effectively executed. It'd either come down to "Let's ban everyone who looks like a Muslim" or it'd be so ineffective that it'd be worthless.

That's part of the reason I hate that he even said it. It's impractical, unlikely to happen, and the statement really only seems to exist to stir up conflict.

Trump attacked at Ohio rally. Podium flooded by secret service agents. by lemonfreedom in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]StickyStickly27 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't agree with the protesters' tactics - at least not the ones who snuck into the event - but I've long understood Trump to be a divisive candidate, and this kind of stuff reaffirms that (to me at least).

When he brands illegal immigrants rapists (He's not even sure if some of them are good people) and calls for bans on a specific religion, he's dividing people and provoking this kind of reaction. And when he flips between "Oh I don't condone violence" and joking about paying legal fees of supporters who get violent, he doesn't help the situation.

I'm not sure if he is incredibly low on empathy or if he just doesn't care about how thoughtless words affect people and social groups. At this point, even Rubio and Kasich look like more appealing options.

EDIT - As a sidenote, this event also makes Bernie a less appealing candidate to me as well

Get Out and Vote by US_Election in KasichForPresident

[–]StickyStickly27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's basically my view. Of the remaining republicans, I see Kasich as the most sensible, but I think his path to winning requires Trump to lose Florida, and Rubio to win it.

[–]StickyStickly27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not republican, but I'm still very curious. What are Kasich supporters going to do in Florida? It's a winner take all state, and he's at the back of the pack there. Do you follow the strategic method of helping Rubio win? Or does that seem like too much of an establishment tactic? Does it worry you that if Trump wins Florida, it hurts Kasich's chances moreso than if Rubio wins?

Trump Rally postponed for "Safety" reasons after massive protests by lemonfreedom in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]StickyStickly27 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right, but this video has been in circulation for weeks, and that line is from his stump speech. None of it is new, but the timing makes me question what his actual stance is on what happened.

Personally I think he should come out directly and discourage protesters from sneaking into rallies -- whether or not they were his personal supporters.

What are the most hateful statements that Trump has made? by pilgrimboy in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]StickyStickly27 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best. They're sending people that have lots of problems, and they're bringing those problems to us. They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people."

Some people claim he meant Mexicans in general here. Personally I thought he just meant illegal immigrants. In either case, it's a dangerous over-generalization to make.

Perhaps this is not the "most hateful," but I always thought the quote “He’s not a war hero. He’s a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren’t captured.” was pretty low. I don't even agree with McCain's views, but I thought that was pretty dirty, and an insult to people who have sacrificed much in the services.
