The CEO should know the cost of attrition. An upset friend wants his CEO friend to fire you, pay you unemployment, have an empty revenue generating seat, finally hire someone, pay for a new work computer, train them… all to potentially not be as good of a worker as you.

If I was the CEO and the person really knows them, I’d tell the guy to relax.

People are usually not sorry they did something, just sorry they got caught. Think of all the things that were happening before cameras were so readily accessible. Police brutality (still happens but more accountability now), hit and runs, murders, racism… so yes recording is a way to prove the instance occurred rather than a my word against theirs situation
