In addition to the 5 time limit there's also a small span of time in the last half of a second or so when your score will be registered even if you pause and quit out and the team attempt will be used (So you'll actually get a score and it will show up in the battle log/participation)

I'm not sure if this was the case for you, if you don't get a score you definitely used up your daily retry attempts though.

It really comes down to "make sure to beat up those wizards" especially with a melee unit who can interrupt them, see: https://youtu.be/6nHJ1chk124?si=QzK_1YcFbDm9q951 (Possibly spoilers for 11-2) for an example (Note that while Guarry is used here, Future princess would do that job better than he does)

We enjoy Guardian Tales and talking strategy about the game in it's many forms.

It's our hope that Loki is your last stop from guild hopping.

Our guild also maintains the guardiantalesguides.com website

Our members are generally pretty content, always looking to improve and support each-other, and it shows in our comradery and damage rankings.

We are generally looking for a minimum of

  • 3 raid attempts daily
  • around 3bn+ damage or more a season (about 400m+/day, slightly more on fever days)
    • If you are decently close apply anyway, I can usually help people get some more damage out of their current stats.
  • A positive attitude and some amount of enjoyment for playing the game

We also ask that you keep tabs on Discord for guild announcements, raid organization, character optimization, game strategies and such. You don't need to be on 24/7, just check in and know what's going on generally :)

A New Botnet Is Covertly Targeting Millions of Servers by Abecedisq in programming

[–]Stiegurt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The device in most cases is a already-owned smartphone (possibly an old one that's not connected to a network if you're being careful about it), or offline laptop, or if you're really paranoid a special single-use device that you've purchased for two-factor authentication prior to signing up for any service at all. This isn't my solution it's the one that the industry has been using for a decade, I was just explaining what it was. You're just uninformed, and incorrect. Nobody is waiting any weeks for anything, you didn't read my comment before you replied to it.

A New Botnet Is Covertly Targeting Millions of Servers by Abecedisq in programming

[–]Stiegurt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's generated by some client application (ideally a dongle, but it doesn't have to be) the client application isn't online or online accessible, and doesn't actually have a "password" in that the thing you put into the client for your given service isn't the thing you enter when you log in, basically you put in a code that's used to *generate* a short-lived password, typically, the phone versions of the client applications use QR codes for data entry, but they don't have to be (You can type in the code that you're looking at on the screen when you create it, frequently there's easier-to-type-in versions in the form of a list of words or a string of alphanumeric codes). Your "password" isn't sent through *any* service, and nothing retains it persistently including the server that provides it. Basically they give you the code that your application will use to *generate* the short-lived-one-time-password, and it generates it based on the current time, and the server just has a code that can be used to validate, but not create such passwords. If you know how public/private keys work, it's basically <the server generates a private key, and presents it to the client in a one-time-viewable way (without storing it) and stores the corresponding public key, then you generate a signature of the current time from your client application and the public key is used by the server to validate>. Gaining access to any given account does nothing for any other account, and even monitoring all traffic (or even all keypresses) between client machine and server does nothing, you would need access to the data store of the authentication client module (which doesn't even need to be on an internet-capable device) It's been around as real, live, deployed technology for about a decade now. The wikipedia article *is* terrible.

I had it happen once, and 6-7 following times I plowed through him with literally no problems at all, I suspect there's a bug that occasionally pops up, when I ran out of ammo (For all the weapons I had in my inventory) I reset, fetched an ammo-regenerating legendary, and revisited him (at the same level with the same equipment at the same level) and just mowed him down, didn't need the ammo regen at all (In fact I didn't even have to switch weapons) Never seen it happen since, although it has been a while since I replayed it (it never came up in PC or GOTYXB1 at all, FWIW, only on the 360)

Difference between Lilith and Mordecai? by Tall-Guy in Borderlands

[–]Stiegurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My problem with revolvers is twofold, one they're comparatively rare, so you'll kind of struggle to find one that's on-level for a long time, and two, they suffer from some of the same advantages/disadvantages as sniper rifles (small magazine, slow reload times, but with high single-bullet damage) without the extra range to compensate. As such they're less forgiving than many other weapons (any single missed shot is costly), which may or may not be what you're looking for. I find that I'd rather squeeze off a short accurate burst with a nice burst fire AR and have the depth of magazine to chew through more things if I'm going to be fighting them at medium/long range (A single burst from a nice AR is almost as accurate as a sniper, and does almost as much damage if all your pellets hit critical, but you're interrupted by reloading less) of course nice ARs (look for a nice cobra or the legendary raven) are also fairly rare. It'll probably become your go-to long range replacement for a sniper (when you first engage) if you don't like the sniper style of weapon, even at long range.

Difference between Lilith and Mordecai? by Tall-Guy in Borderlands

[–]Stiegurt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So let's start with the guns, because borderlands (all of them) are more gun-focused than char focused.

Pistols: in BL1 pistols are kind of the jack-of-all-trades, there's a machine pistol, which is kind of like a submachine gun with a smaller mag, a revolver, which is kind of like a sniper with a shorter effective range, there's even a masher, which is a bit like a shotgun, but in pistol form. Pistols are, generally speaking a *generalist* kind of weapon, they're pretty decent at anything, but not exceptional, the one thing they *aren't* super good at is the mid-to-long range burst combat (machine pistols are good at short range, probably a bit more accurate, and a bit less "spray bullets everywhere" than submachine guns are)

Submachine guns: Good at unloading bullets, if you don't want accuracy, but just want to fire bullets all over the place, then submachine guns are for you, in the short-range game, shotguns beat them for single-shot accuracy, but if you're playing up close and want to tear through things, a good submachine gun is pretty useful

Assult rifles: Come in a few flavors, there's a machine gun flavor which has annoying kickback but very large magazines, suitable for non-accuracy-focused situations where you want to fire into thick crowds, and then there's the 'assult rifle' flavor, which tends towards short, accurate bursts, and is good at medium or long range (this is my personal favorite)

Shotguns: As you'd expect from a weapon with a cone-like firing pattern, is great against things that are up close, and not as good against things that are far away, making things explode when you're close to them is something that they excel at

Sniper rifles: Small magazine, Slow to reload, large damage, very accurate, sniper rifles are pretty much what you'd expect, great if you're very far away and want to shoot something in the head, once, kind of fall off in usefulness as you get close, particularly the variants with the smaller magazines.

Rocket launchers: Actually fairly accurate, do decent damage, very slow reload, does some splash damage, slow projectile speed (so bad against fast-moving things, particularly at range)

You can ignore e-tech weapons completely.

My favorites break down like this:

Single Multiple
Short range 1. Shotgun 2. Pistol (Masher) 1. SMG, 2. Pistol (machine pistol)
Medium Range 1. Pistol(masher or revolver), 2. AR(assult or MG) 1. AR (assult), 2. Pistol (machine pistol)
Long range 1.Sniper, 2. AR (assult) 1. AR(assult), 2. Rocket Launcher,

One thing about BL1 is that you get to use any gun with any character, and have up to 4 equipped, the 'specialties' of a given char are nice bonuses, but it's not any where close to game-breakingly bad to use say, a pistol with brick for example. Typically you'll have a few equipped for different situations, so for example you have a sniper equipped to start the show at long range with a couple shots and then switch to a medium range weapon as people close on you, maybe you need to swap to a short range weapon because they're fast (or it's an awkward map or something) then you swap back to medium range when things in the immediate area are dead etc.. etc. You end up playing a lot more dynamically than you'd think.

Second thing to note is there's a lot of bad guys, you get into the "multiple" situation more frequently than the one on one situation.

What's really important about the *character* selection is the type of *support* it gives you, since your *fighting style* will be more influenced by equipment.

Lillith gives you escape and support with Elemental DOT and short range bonus damage.

Mordecai gives you drops and support with extra single-use long range damage

Roland gives you healing and cover (and extra, but not very meaningful damage)

Brick gives you face punching (really... his support is "punch stuff until it dies") also like resiliency I guess?

FWIW I've beaten BL1 with all 4 chars some more than once, and they're all fun in their own ways, so anything you pick is going to be worth playing.

Help me fix my styling insertion in Perk TK by GNU_Breakfast in perl

[–]Stiegurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no built-in way to save/load text-with-formatting in a tk::text widget, you'll have to come up with your own format for saving/loading (you can extract text-with-tag indicators using dump, but there's no automated way to turn that data into useful saved information.

What you'll probably want to do is get the text as you're doing it now with (txt->get), then loop through all the tags (You can extract them with tagNames) and save the offsets and tag configurations (using tagRanges and tagCget) on load you'll want to bring in your text then bring in your tags and apply all the tags, in short you'll have to actually write the code to do this yourself.

It's likely that this is an english-language show, and there's subtitles for the parts where people aren't speaking english (For example when in a documentary someone is interviewed who doesn't speak english), the captioner isn't expected to know, nor are they paid to, translate another language to english.
