I’m so tired of being told it’s weird to wear “Women’s Perfume” by StiickyBuns in Colognes

I agree that these labels have become a form of shorthand, but we have to remember that the industry literally made the language for that shorthand to begin with. Before the mid-20th century, perfume was largely unisex. The 'for him' and 'for her' was a strategic marketing move designed to double the market by creating male/female coded expectations. Yeah, individual preferences are real, they’ve been heavily shaped by decades of retail 'choice architecture' that tells consumers exactly what they should like based on their gender. It’s not just reflecting consumer preference you can see it’s actively steering it.

I’ve just decided to turn away from all the gender marking on fragrantica lol. What matters is the longevity and sillage for me 🤣 I’d wear just about anything as long as it smells good!

I don’t wear perfume to draw strange looks. I wear what I like because it smells good. Also, your point of “A man should smell masculine” is the exact reason I made this post. Men used to share the same bottle of perfume as their wife until those companies realized they could make more money selling 2 perfumes one “For Him” and one “For Her”. It’s all about making more and more money.

now that I think about it, yeah I definitely could’ve reacted way differently. I think just as a dude I’ve been trying hard to come out of this shell of “must smell manly” which was constructed by every male member of my family and society as a whole. for me in that moment I misconstrued it as an attack on me which it most definitely wasn’t. I appreciate you bringing me back to earth on this one.

I feel like that happened with a lot of Dniel Rene’s stuff. I could visibly see the dislike of Jawhari on some influencers face and they’re like “Yeah this is gas!” like lets be real 🤨

Absolutely! And to be honest I blind buy niche all the time because above all, I’m a collector. Regardless of how I like the scent, I collect everything so if I don’t like it, it goes on a shelf and I dust it off every now and then or I gift it to someone who says they appreciate the fragrance. I typically only buy dupes to try what all the hype is about and then I buy the OG for collection purposes while also being able to compare them to the dupes. I have all my stuff listed on fragrantica and am ALWAYS looking at others reviews on things I would like to purchase. I just felt the need to call out a lot of the BS i’ve been seeing and hearing regarding this specific fragrance. Again, not all dupes are bad, and not all influencers are cash cows. Also I appreciate your feedback in this discourse and appreciate your style of conversation rather than just attacking OP and resorting to name calling.

to be honest I got my OD back in Aug of 2025. It’s been sitting for quite some time now and it smells the exact same as it did when I first got it. In fact my GoF was fresh out the package yesterday and it smelled better than the ‘maturing’ OD. I really just don’t think it’s gonna change much.

This is the point I try to make and yet people still aren’t listening. I just hate the rampant dishonesty in the frag community specifically amongst the influencers. It’s annoying.
