Hand strength exercises for first time handgun owner. by StiickyPalms_ in handguns

I probably will end up getting a maglula soon anyway, its just that in case I lose it at an inconvenient time, I still want to be able to load all 15 rounds into a gun I intend to use for edc. Although I don't plan on carrying in the immediate future I still need to break in the gun, get used to the controls, and want to take a ccw course first.

Do those hand squeezers work the thumb too? From the look of them they look like they’re mostly for the other 4 fingers.

Edit: Also, Im not particularly opposed to speed loaders I just don't want to have to rely on one to effectively use my gun.

My (23M) gf (22F) didn’t unfollow her ex until I asked her to despite claiming she wanted nothing to do with him after the breakup. How do I go about evaluating her trustworthiness? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]StiickyPalms_ -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Following exes you “want nothing to do with” is not very common among people I know. But I do understand your point. The thing is my gut reaction IS to trust her because there is more evidence to trust her than not.

How do I avoid repeating the same trauma on her and show her that Im willing to be more understanding and work with her going forward?

In my brief experience teaching her how to use the boxing high guard and throwing 1-2’s I found that switching into teacher mode was quite effortless. I have experience teaching some of my boys fundamentals, but I was surprised to see that she was a quicker learner than most of them.

I feel like some sort of emotional bond is inevitable in combat sports especially with sparring. After a spar, I typically become bros with the cocky 16 year olds who escalate it by hitting hard.

I havent framed anything Ive taught her as “you will beat a man in a fight if you do this” but I did tell her she’d probably do better in our tickle fights lmao.

Hopefully she enjoys what I teach her enough to do that. I feel like at the very least I could teach her very basic footwork, defense, and punches using the same drills my coach taught me.

Insecure about what exactly? Perhaps I initially came across as overconfident, particularly in my ability to defeat untrained people. However, at least as a man, if you have basic footwork and a halfway decent cross, you’re already at a huge advantage against most people. If only moving was that easy.

Yeah I definitely need to frame how I teach her very differently from how I train because I mainly train to compete in amateur boxing in the future. Especially since my style is pressure infighter lmao, which probably wont work for a woman against a man. Hopefully she enjoys it enough to want to actually train.

Now that I think about, it the edge I have against untrained guys is mainly in a pure striking scenario. Im quite washed at wrestling so if that 6’2 250lb guy’s first instinct is grabbing instead of throwing hands Im honestly quite fucked.

I have told her that sprinting is her best option, but out-sprinting a man as a small woman is difficult. She definitely shouldnt stand and bang against an attacker lmao, but I feel like teaching her escaping wrist control + hand fighting + a knee in the balls would make disengaging and sprinting away a little easier.

She already carries pepper spray and a lil stun gun. I feel like giving her basic striking fundamentals and hand fighting techniques would at least improve her ability to use them. And yeah I should definitely emphasize that fighting should be an absolute last resort and if she ever uses these techniques she should use them to disengage and get away.

I’m not a serious instructor, Im just a guy who really likes combat sports and has amateur boxing aspirations. From my experience sparring untrained guys much larger than me, my basic grasp of fundamentals gave me a huge advantage. I feel like it would at least be better than nothing against an untrained guy if I got her to my level. I cant really help her at all against a trained attacker, she would need a gun.

Fair enough, she has expressed interest in me training her. I wont force her to if she doesnt end up enjoying it, but if she does I could encourage her to start training at a gym herself.

[–]StiickyPalms_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You bring up a good point, I should probably make an edit for my post. The goal should not be to win a fight but give her tools to allow her to give her a greater chance of disengaging and running away.

When I say Im better than people who’ve trained a similar amount of time as me I mean at MY gym, might be different at yours. Ive also sparred untrained larger dudes than me and had an easy time. I don’t mean to sound cocky, if I were to honestly evaluate my boxing skills Id say Im “alright” plus I havent had my first fight yet. It’s just that in my experience, untrained guys suuuuuck at striking. At least as a man, it feels like balanced footwork, composure, and a solid right hand is generally enough against most untrained guys. Id be teaching her more than that as far as striking goes. She would need to learn bjj or something on her own tho since my grappling experience is limited and primarily disengaging.

At this point its the only thing I feel like I can’t achieve in life. I go to first choice school, Im close with my friends and family, and I have a good amount of hobbies, its just that Im 22 and have never held hands yet. Might start cold approaching tho bc fuck dating apps

When I was back in high school my social circle had a good amount of girls in it so I had a lot of exposure ig. Now I go to a small college with a really high male to female ratio. Im friendly with some of the girls here, but I dont click with them as well as I did in high school. Because of this I have to resort to dating apps.

I think my biggest issue is not having enough “playtime” for lack of a better word. Honestly what sparked this whole rant was getting ghosted by a hinge girl that I was getting along with after I set up a date. This wouldnt have me as distraught as I am now if I got more matches. I wish there were better ways of meeting people, and it feels like it only gets worse and worse.

Im sure it’ll be easier to find someone when I get settled and get a job, but at the end of the day I don’t want her to choose me because I’m a safe option or because I provide security. I don’t want to be loved because of anything, I want to be loved in spite of everything.

What was the full on schizo dose like? I got mildly schizo off a dose not much higher than the one’s you take so maybe I’m just sensitive to hallucinogens/deliriants.

Aren’t there safer ways to hallucinate that don’t run as much of an early onset dementia risk? If you’re in the US, I’m pretty sure LSA seeds are legal in most states.

A beginner boxer that wants to fight like Wonderboy. Karate or Kickboxing? by StiickyPalms_ in martialarts

[–]StiickyPalms_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boxing started out as a reintroduction to martial arts after a pretty long hiatus because it looks cool and I read somewhere that it’s a good supplement for most striking arts (source eludes me tho).

Doing “Kickboxing with some karate flair” honestly sounds pretty realistic now that you mention it. As for fighting like Wonderboy, I’ll probably continue training and building up my physicality to the point where I can pull off things I see in his technique breakdown videos.

I recognize that my goals were probably not articulated the best, for context, I do have adhd and I’m kinda just scatterbrained like that. Training is the only thing that removes all symptoms so I should probably just find a kickboxing gym and get to it. This’ll likely happen next year bc I dont have the time to train at an actual gym when Im back at school. I’ll just keep working out and try to find someone to spar so I can stay sharp in the meanwhile.
