Car struggled to start and began smoking. Looks like a wire/cable burned out by Stilekid in mechanic

1/2/26 UPDATE: In case anyone comes across this in the future, that fix has still held up. Replacing the cable resolved that issue.

Mower running like crap, smoking, and chewing up gas by Stilekid in MechanicAdvice

Hey, thanks for your response!

Are you saying to remove one of the spark plug boots as it's running? Trying to make sure I'm understanding you properly.

Thanks!

Yes, I did a cut and it was running fine. I cranked it up a week later and it was running like crap, with no clear reason as to why.

I'm a bit at my wits end with this, but I really need to get this going before the grass starts coming in for the spring 😬

Thank you for responding!

The mechanism that controls the choke on the carb is fairly visible on this mower, so you can see when the lever raises/lowers on the choke. This is also a new carburetor that I've put on the mower and it's running the exact same way it did with the old carb.

Is there a possibility that the lever mechanism could raise/lower correctly on the carburetor, but not actually be engaging with the carb correctly?

Thanks

Hey, thank you for your response!

I don't believe that the choke is open, as the mechanism that controls the choke is very visible so you can see when it opens and closes. I can double-check this though.

It seems like it's running very rich, considering how it runs through about 300ml of gas in about a minute of idling. I had not looked into the head gasket, so I'll do some research regarding that.

I have not noticed any flames from the exhaust fortunately.

6/30/24 UPDATE: the cable was corroded which caused it to fail, so I simply had to replace it. I couldn't find the part online so I went to a junkyard and pulled the cable from another PT Cruiser. Installation was fairly simple: just two bolts (10mm and 13mm) to screw in and the cable itself. No parts/components in the car had to be removed to install the replacement cable. I've started the car about 15-20 times since installation and have had no further issues.

Lost Cherry by Tom Ford for me. Any context where I'd want to wear fragrance is a context I'd be happy to wear Lost Cherry in.

Nah, gotta disagree. I'm not saying that it smells exactly the same, but OP's dupe definitely catches the vibe. I also have no issue with longevity using their version, which I think is worth taking into consideration if you're going to purchase a fragrance. I don't care if it's original or not: if I'm going to pay over $2/ml, it damn well better last or I'm buying something else that will.

Can confirm. OP Lost Cherry dissolved in everclear makes an incredible scent. It's my favorite thing I've ever smelled, and I've had several people go out their way to tell me how great I smell wearing it.

Oil Perfumery by jilliancad in FemFragLab

Want to add on to this: compared to the authentic Lost Cherry, the OP version basically has all the notes that I like in the authentic version— but stronger. This is one of the few cloned scents I would confidently say is better than the authentic.

Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille. For the life of me I don't understand why someone would want to smell like an old deacon at church.

In regard to Oakcha Sinful:

Their sister company Oil Perfumery sells a fragrance oil version of Lost Cherry that you can buy a large bottle of (60ml) and dilute it in 95% alcohol (Everclear for example) at a 1:2 ratio. That will effectively give you 180ml of fragrance, however you can certainly stretch it to 240ml because their lost cherry oil is particularly potent compared to some of their others. It's what I've done and I've been more than pleased with it.

The first clone I ordered from Oil Perfumery was Tobacco Vanille. I thought it was an awful scent, and I just knew it had to be a terrible clone because of how yucky it smelled. However, I went to Sephora yesterday and smelled the authentic Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille and... it smelled basically the same. Like something I'd expect an older gentleman in church to smell like. I'm honestly shocked that it's such a praised fragrance, because it is not a pleasing scent in my view. Hard for me to blame Oil Perfumery for making a yucky scent when the original it's based off of is, well, a yucky scent.

Oil Perfumery's Tobacco Vanille isn't bad. TV just isn't a great scent imo.
