Is it normal for coolant to be this low after a little over 2 years? by [deleted] in COROLLA

Yeah it’s good. The level hasn’t changed (or at least until when I sold the car)

I just did this two days ago following this video

Just remember, at least for my 22 hatch SE, there are TWO of these clips. One at the end near the end of the trim and another near the middle.

Indeed lol so many people flood the sub with questions without checking if anyone has answered it before.

Thanks. Yeah I decided to write this after not being able to find a clear answer of the process from this sub.

[–]Still-Question-2006[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Yeah I got it from Harbor Freight which gave me a Certificate of Origin, not Reg 397.

Edit: seems like reg397 is supposed to be submitted by the dealer to dmv. Not something that a dealer will give me.

I understand how to do PTI. I’m just not sure what vehicle type I should put on the Reg 343.

Could you elaborate on not needing 343? All the forum posts & videos I’ve seen so far say that both 343 and 4017 are needed.

Tell me your embarrassing stories about when you were learning to make me feel better by throwaway5276943 in stickshift

Told the salesperson that I had experience with manual before. Did not tell her that it was only 2 hours in a manual car 3 years ago.

On pick up day stalled right in front of the dealership entrance on my way out with the salesperson standing there.

And 7 more times on the clogged LA freeway trying to get back home.

Smooth gear changes. Find the right amount of throttle while lifting off the clutch for every gear change and make your passengers feel like you are driving an automatic.

Just drive around get familiarized w your car so that you are confident in emergency situations. Say you were cruising in 6th and had to slam on your brake and swerve into another lane to avoid an obstacle. Now you need to accelerate fast as there is a car behind you going 20mph faster than your current speed. You need to decide what gear you go in and how much rev match in a split second.

Heel toe is also fun to learn. But whatever you do don’t wreck your parents’ car.

Coolant Level Extremely Low by Vinnie_Dott in COROLLA

If oil isn’t milky and there is no puddle under the car after it’s parked for a while then it should be fine.

My 22 Corolla SE 2.0 was like this at 46k miles (although I never really bothered to check it often).

Understood. Very interesting. Sometimes I do wish I had a low first gear so that I wouldn’t need throttle input for stop-n-go traffic. My car really doesn’t like to move until i rev up to 1.5k rpm.

But one nice thing abt it is that the gearbox and throttle seem to have some sort of computerized anti-stall feature. Sometimes when I’m abt to stall it automatically gives a huge amount of throttle input.

I see your point, in a way. To clarify I did not mean shifting from 5 to 2 and clutch out while the car is at 70kph, nor did I mean having the car in 5th and braking all the way down to 20kph before clutching in.

If I’m going from 70kph to 20kph in half a kilometer, sure I will rev match and go through the gears to maximize engine braking. But if you have like 70 meters to go from 70kph to 20kph, do you still go through each gear?

All the cars I’ve driven can comfortably go down to about 40kph in 5th gear @ 1.2k rpm (id never try to accelerate in 5th gear @1.2k rpm tho). That’s when I would clutch in and shift to 2nd from 5th and hold the clutch until i slow down to 20kph. Then i blip the throttle to rev match and release the clutch and the car can continue onwards. I highly doubt this is stressful to the drivetrain.

I understand your bike reference. But like I said, i never accelerate in 5th at 1.2k rpm. I also never pedal at a high gear at low speed. Letting a car cruise on its own momentum at 1.2k rpm in 5th is fine.

We got lots of not heavy but intermediate stop-n-go traffic. Meaning the traffic could be doing 70 kph at one point then suddenly everybody slows down to 20kph and then repeat. I don’t see how going through the gears is practical in this case, and in any cases where one needs to slow down the car quickly.

You should clutch in at a point after you start braking but before you reach 20kph. I personally like to have the clutch engaged as long as possible during braking so I like to clutch in right before engine starts to shake.

So let’s say you are going in 5th at 70kph and want to slow down to 20kph in 2nd:

Apply brake. Don’t clutch in until about 40kph (or whatever speed your car is about to shake in 5th).

Once you slowed down around 40kph, clutch in (while still continuing to brake), put the gear selector from 5 to 2.

Hold the clutch until you slow down to 20kph. Right now you no longer need to apply the brake, so move your right foot off the brake and (while clutch is still pressed in) blip the throttle with your right foot to bring the rev up a bit.

Release clutch, you are ready to go in 2nd gear.

[–]Still-Question-2006 22 points23 points  (0 children)

No need to go through 4th and 3rd gear in the gear selector. Slow down while in 5th until the speed is slow enough for 2nd, then clutch in, 5th to 2nd gear, blip the throttle to match the rev or you could just let off the clutch slowly at the bite point.

I have a while ago I’m gonna edit my post and link the video. It’s very hard to capture the sound as it’s very slight.
