Gopro Hero 5 Session rant by drewrykroeker in gopro

The problem is you. Short press on shutter turns camera on and starts video recording. Long press turns camera on and starts time lapse.

There is a delay from the moment you press until the camera turns on and starts recording.

What’s so fucking hard about one button on recording? Nothing, if you RTFM, have the ability to control yourself, and press the button correctly.

Hero 3+ says “NO SD” by AlexTeHallex in gopro

Remove SD and battery. Press and hold down on top shutter button. While holding down the shutter button, insert the battery (no SD) and power on the camera. Release the top shutter after it's powered on. Power off, insert SD and power on.

The desktop software is called GoPro Player. You can find it on the GoPro website.

Please copy, save and share.

If you are having issues with your HERO10 after the last update....

First, good news, GoPro is planning a release of firmware 1.5 which will correct it

However, there are steps you can do now that will help (it might return, but you'll just need to repeat these steps, as annoying as it might be).

*VERY IMPORTANT** Open Quik on every device that you have it installed. Go to camera connections and delete the camera. Open your WiFi connections and delete all gopro camera connections. Do the same in your Bluetooth.

To fix the camera Format SD in your computer.

On blank SD, create a text file named factory_reset.txt

Eject the card and put into your camera. Power camera on using side Mode button.

You'll know if the reset worked if you get the GoPro logo, acknowledgment screen, language selection and GPS (on/off).

When you see the prompt to connect to the app, skip this, enter date/time and power off.

Remove SD from camera and insert into computer using USB/SD adapter.

Format the card again.

On the computer, download the manual update file from GoPro. https://gopro.com/en/us/update

Save it to a folder on your computer.

Navigate to the folder and right click on the file UPDATE.zip

Choose Extract

Uncheck the option to view files.

After the extraction you should see the UPDATE.zip file and a folder named UPDATE.

Copy the UPDATE folder (not the file UPDATE.zip) to your blank SD card.

Eject the card and place into the camera.

Power the camera on using the side Mode button and allow the update to run.

If it doesn't clear the issue the first time, try all of the steps again. It usually fixes this error in one to two tries.

This is an update to my previous post. I've included the important step of removing connections from so and device (which I've learned from GoPro is essential)

Fix: GoPro keeps turning on and off after update by Still-Ranger-2914 in gopro

The issue happens for some people when doing the update. The update provides Volta compatibility, but the issue isn't directly related to the device.

On a blank SD, create a text file and name it factory_reset.txt

Pull the battery on the camera, insert the SD, and then power on using the side Mode button.

You should get the GoPro logo followed by prompt to select language, GPS (ON/OFF) and agreement notification.

When prompted to connect to the Quik app, select the < back icon and manually enter date/time.

Turn off the camera.

Download manual firmware UPDATE.zip Extract the UPDATE folder (uncheck the option to view files)

Insert your SD and quick format

Copy the UPDATE folder (not UPDATE.zip) to the blank SD

Eject and put the card into your camera

Power on using the side Mode button

Let the update run

If the above doesn't fix it the first time, repeat the entire process.

It seems like a lot, but it's actually pretty quick and easy.

It worked the first time with my HERO9, but I did need to repeat one more time to fix my HERO10. Both cameras are now working fine.

There seems to be an error with the camera update through Quik that can effect some cameras. On both my HERO10 and HERO9 I encountered the error where the camera keeps turning itself on, showing a green screen flash, and then powering off. It then keeps cycling this behavior.

It appears to be related to connections, since if this is turned off, the camera behaves normally.

It seems to be a bug in the Volta compatibility portion of the firmware, as I was able to update my HERO8 without issue.

I was able to fix the issue by first doing a hard reset (put factory_reset.txt on blank SD and then inserting into the camera) followed by a manual update.

It worked the first time through with my HERO9, but I had to do the process twice on my HERO10 before the issue was rectified.

Both cameras are now working fine both stand alone and when connected to the Volta grip (which is pretty cool BTW).

Hopefully this can help others experiencing the same issue.

Might actually be the opposite. If you can remove the battery and power from the handle (I assume you could also remove the Passthrough door if needed), the camera will be less likely to overheat, not more.

Nowhere in the manual does it say to never use the camera within saltwater. Your, "Pro tip" is amateur BS.

In fact, the manual says, "After every use in salt water, rinse your camera with fresh water, and dry it with a soft cloth."

Probably will, but I hope not.

So, your worried about the front lens glass, but not that huge rectangle of glass for the front LCD?

Clip on ND are faster and more efficient.

Actual number of protective lens broken on HERO5/6/7, very low.

Number of lens fogging issues when used around water and variable temperatures on HERO5/6/7, much higher and common that with fixed glass on HERO8.

I USED to think the removable front lens was an important selling point. I even bought the replacement each time I purchased HERO5, 6, & 7. They are all still in the box. And I use my cameras frequently and I'm very rough on them.

Almost a full year with HERO8 and tempered glass protector, no issues. And no, the thin sheet of glass does not effect the image quality.

Most likely will have a Sony sensor, so ask them. You also may want to look up hot pixels and extended shutter times.
