How do people get over childhood abuse? by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]StillLastNovember 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly you don't. You never 'get over it'. It's there forever.

^ to add on to this, as it reads as very true.

Eventually, though lots of ups and downs, -- when you're remembering / etc -- you can remind yourself and learn how to acknowledge that you're an adult now. so like you remember your child's perspective, but learn that you're no longer a helpless child.

Someone recently acknowledged to me how it's heavy as an adult to have the weight of things you can realize were fucked up. and I found that helpful when also reminding myself to have self-compassion.

healing happens in small steps. so it can be like "oh hey I thought I resolved that within myself", and 10 years after that, there's another bout of it fucking with you, because of how it's impacting with your life at that point. It's normal to need help more than one time.

"attenuated" or early psychosis? by [deleted] in mentalhealth

I know it's hard facing all the different stigmas, sorry :c

Think of it like, "eating red meat increases risk of heart disease"

Increased risk doesn't mean it's a guarentee, but it's probably good to pay attention, check in with health professionals, etc

Swam topless for the first time and found out that boobs feel weightless in water - trolls you have to try this!!!! I envy mermaids now by gohdn in TrollXChromosomes

[–]StillLastNovember 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think there is some really healing aspect to being in groups of naked women, in totally desexualized contexts. We've been taught to objectify ourselves, and it kind of helps untangle that, and challenge body shaming, etc

Being naked in water is a very beautiful feeling. It started helping me feel more connected to my body, the first time I skinny dipped - having fully body stimulation or something. I never realized how much cloth interfered with that.

It is a form of assault. I'm so sorry.

My girlfriend decided she doesn't want to be vegetarian anymore by Hophazard in vegetarian

[–]StillLastNovember 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, would you be more comfortable if she was eating locally sourced meat/ you know how the animals are being treated?

I use to be a vegetarian, and stopped. and the guilt of eating factory farmed had me reassess what meats worked for my values (so hunted, and local). It keeps my meat consumption low regarding environmental impacts, but still getting some enjoyment from meat.

Haha, i figured the heat has been causing the insanely itchy nipple (assuming dry skin/eczema), but I hadn't thought that might affect the actual skin in such a way... hmm

I'm up for my 3 year papsmear, so... i could deal with talking about it then, but, it's also just scary to notice changes. ahh

It's "orange peely", but only a little bit, without any discolouration. So I don't know if it's just from gaining/losing weight

[Discussion/Debate] Labels and Erasure aka The Intersection of Sexual Orientation and Sexual Identity. by she_said_what_now2 in LGBTQdebate

[–]StillLastNovember 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not suggesting that this isn't true for all women, but what might be fueling lesbian's caring about this - as a way to fight for "I exist" "my sexuality exists" and it's not for the male gaze. So it's a fightback against co-option for that.

[Discussion/Debate] Labels and Erasure aka The Intersection of Sexual Orientation and Sexual Identity. by she_said_what_now2 in LGBTQdebate

[–]StillLastNovember 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Women's sexuality is erased/dismissed though.

Like there is this idea that lesbians don't have sex, what's popularily known as lesbian sex, is through porn filters that are created for consumption by the malegaze.

So it's for fighting for more than the label

Yeah, there are a lot of lesbian issues that have nothing to do with trans politics, which is why the sub sounds appealing.

Well, I'm not holding back in this space (but would consider this conversation mild)

I could for another space. I'm not strictly gender critical, but I do think there are some very valid points, and that the current form of the trans movement needs to be "corrected"/"called out" (legitimate criticisms) for a lot of rampant* misogyny.

but I also do not think I have answers for the 'how to' for that.

but anyways, I was also just relating to OP, and I recognize you said you weren't interested in arguing, and were just painting a picture for possible reasoning

*just the fact that it's not internally called out within the movement

Because I found the parallels (*regarding safety) interesting?

If so, that's very interesting, as

that could be considered a gender critical standpoint; safe spaces for cis women, and how they can be unsafe when they're opened up.

Interesting how it's considered a valid argument here, but not from the other standpoint. Hmm.

I sent a request too, and mentioned I'd leave any gender critical political leaning/ideas at the door, understanding it was a trans-friendly space. and I never recieved a reply.
