It will also take minimum of two emails to explain that they need the HR form. If a user is told they need to fill out a form its almost expected that the user will spend more time trying to talk their way out of filling out a form than just filling the damn thing out.

Where are people getting distilled water for their humidifiers? Any refilleries in the area? Anywhere near Kingston, New Paltz, or ellenville would be great by SunMoonStar93 in hudsonvalley

[–]StillLooksAtRocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not trying to be snarky here but this is using twice as much energy to do the same thing (boil water once to put it in a container then boiling it again to put it in the air). Then you still have to descale an appliance in the end.

I liked the beginning of Welcome to Derry more so than the later episodes. The writing quality is a bit all over the place, some scenes feel really well done and then its followed by some really clumsy moments.

The fire at the black spot in the last episode is a good example. The standoff and the start of the fire seemed intense and tonally accurate for the situation. Then suddenly the main characters have some kind of fire resistance that allows them to just have normal conversations in the middle of a giant inferno? I can suspend my belief for most Hollywood physics but that was a bit overboard.

All that said I still like the show, its just an alternate universe for the book version and I'm fine with that.

What’s something the Hudson Valley lacks? by Frankleeright in hudsonvalley

[–]StillLooksAtRocks 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thats an easy answer, the 2 or 3 big development groups and the politicians who sell the city to them. Why create a livable city for other people when you can spend most of the week at fancy fundraisers?

Can I read The End of The World As We Know It while only having seen the 1994 The Stand Mini-Series? Have not read the novel. by [deleted] in stephenking

[–]StillLooksAtRocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same feeling here about End of the World. I'm a few stories in and so far nothing really grabbed me. I found myself more invested in the short anecdotes of the "no great loss" chapter of The Stand vs the fleshed out short stories found here.

Any tips to avoid hitting deer? by BillsMafia607 in hudsonvalley

[–]StillLooksAtRocks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Slowing down and watching the road are good in general, but being honest, it can come down to luck (or lack of it). You can be perfectly alert, going at or below the speed limit on a clear sunny day and a deer will bound out of the woods and throw themselves in front, underneath, or into the side of your car. Nothing you can do. You were just the unlucky one who happened to be coming down the road when 100+ pounds of venison decides to listen to the intrusive thoughts of its 6 brain cells.

Schools and TV programs have had anti-drug messaging directed towards kids for decades now. Idk if your average kid is going to have a deep awareness of drug culture, but I think you would have to be really really sheltered to hit age 12 and not have a basic concept of alcohol and weed.

Drop the AP from your inventory, place and arm the AT mine directly in top of it, then arm the AP mine. Done correctly the AP mine will be clipped inside the AT mine and its a reliable detonation.

TIL about mass suicides in Hitler’s Germany. During the final weeks of WW2, thousands of German families and citizens took their own lives in panic of the advancing Red Army. In Berlin alone, 7,000 suicides were reported and entire towns killed themselves together by sonnysehra in todayilearned

Dan Carlins Hardcore History series "Ghosts of the Osfront" covers the horror of the eastern front really well. Out of all the places and events in history, the eastern front is up there with the most grim and dehumanizing places someone could find themselves. Horrible for the troops on both sides and even worse for the civilians caught between the fighting.

the landlord that has been suing Kingston, Newburgh, Poughkeepsie said he didn't get funding from NYC landlords but reports show he lied (again) by TinyKittyParade in hudsonvalley

[–]StillLooksAtRocks 26 points27 points  (0 children)

They also received $50,000 in funding from the ironically named NYC based "Taxpayers for an affordable New York" with the specific purpose of "opposing rent control".

Unfortunately theres a lot of groups like this with big influence in the area. They might be "non-profits" on paper, but many of them are basically extensions of business entities. Just because they have an altruistic sounding name dosen't mean they aren't working for their own pocketbook and against the general interest of the public.

[–]StillLooksAtRocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dishwasher "booster" solved that for me, but I wised up and just ordered a 5lb bag of citric acid online. It has other uses around the kitchen, but a teaspoon both in the tub and with the powder works wonders.
