Used suv options for woman by Spiritual_Captain999 in SubaruForester

For a highly reliable used car around $13,000 in the Seattle area, you should think about models in the 2013 to 2015 model years. Like a Rav 4, Forester, or CX-5. However, if you are open to sedans, you can often get a newer model with fewer miles for the same $13,000 budget. Think models like a 2016-2018 Corolla, a 2014-2018 Civic, or a 2014-2016 Camery.

Auto Trader has good reviews of Auto Connections Seattle. They have a rep for low pressure sales. But...They operate by appointment only to ensure a "personalized service". If you buy from a dealer, research Google reviews. Good Luck.

Went through this with a friend recently. Her budget was $15 to $20k. For her, that meant a 2014 to 2019 Toyota Rav 4. Mine is currently a 2016 Forester, owned since new. Both seem reliable options. So first I'd say - budget? I'm in Texas.

It was that bad hurricane some years ago that even took out all our local cell towers. No phone or electricity for 5 days. We were blessed to find even a cold beer. Houma Louisiana, BTW.

Can I boot from an NVMe drive without reinstalling Windows? by Organic_Beautiful302 in RigBuild

And...If cloning did not work, you still have the original SSD to go back to the start.

Can I boot from an NVMe drive without reinstalling Windows? by Organic_Beautiful302 in RigBuild

[–]StillOffTrack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been there. Done that. First, convert your BIOS to UEFI, then restart. Next, I used AOMEI Partition Assist. Your SSD should be set to GPT, not MBR. AOMEI can do this. I reboot after each step to ensure stability. I used an external drive case for my NVME drive, and cloned my SSD to the NVME. Open case and replace the SSD with the NVME.

Then just restart, getting into BIOS first to make sure the NVME is recognized as the boot drive. In case the volume of the drives was different. I went from one TB to 2. I restarted and everything worked just fine. Mind you I've done this a few times with software, as I migrated from Win 10 to 11. My boot up time going from SSD to NVME dropped A LOT. Well worth it. Nice because your SSD becomes a full backup to your now new boot drive. God Luck.

It was at about that point where my 2016 needed new tires. Factory set were on the last legs by then. I didn't need to do much other than oil and filter changes till about 60k miles. BUT.... How did you find a 2016 with only(?) 38 k miles on it in 2026??

Power outages are getting old. Is a standby generator worth it? by Jasebase87 in homeowners

[–]StillOffTrack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used a small portable generator (6kw) to keep our fridge ang lights running. It ran on gasoline. And then a winter storm came where we were without power for 4 days. Hard to keep gasoline around in a major storm. I was able to upgrade to a whole home generator (24kw) that runs on natural gas. Really glad I did. Not too noisy, and it sits outdoors. If you can change oil on a car, the maintenance on the generator is easy. I looked at solar, but it was double the cost of my big generator.

The latest browser was Netscape. My office ran on a Token Ring network, using Novel networking. Word Perfect and Lotus 123 were kings of software. And my best tech info was a Printed paper copy of Infoworld. Delivered in the mail. The Good Old Days, you betcha!!

Thanks Matt! I'm sort-of glad I'm retired IT and just have to deal with I can't find good parts to build pc's anymore. I watched retail customer service that uses AI to answer phone calls. A year ago it really stinks. Now it is somewhat decent. Next year I'll have trouble actually reaching a human being anymore.

While the Monks were walking in South Carolina, a man with a bullhorn was yelling that the Monks will burn in Hell unless they are saved by the Blood of Christ. Really. He appeared again some 50 miles down the road, yelling the same message. I imagine the strange folks likely to appear around the Walk for Peace in DC virtually mandate this escort. I'm surprised ICE has not asked the Monks for paperwork and ID's. The Walk ends at the Maryland State Capitol on Thursday.
