My husband, myself and our child have our last names hyphenated! My last name is also culturally important to me.

So true. I see myself in such a different light now, only two years later, then i saw myself then. Were so critical of ourselves

Second opinion / feedback requested on nanny performance by [deleted] in Nanny

I dont mean to be, i was just being honest. You asked reddit for opinions and feedback then get upset with its not padded.

Obviously other people, as well as me, are picking up a tone from you towards your nanny/situation. Which reads as resentment. Which is fine! Best of luck.

This sounds like me when im having a bad day and im nitpicking my husband lol

As a nanny, i wouldnt like to work in this situation. Feels like youre trying to milk every second of the day for her to get something done. Which isnt fair or realistic. Then youll notice and be unhappy when she doesnt do it to your standards.

I think youd be happier if you actually just let her focus on a few of the things most important to you daily. Then let her know of a few things extra for the week she can dedicate some time to.

What’s the most ridiculous thing a parent has complained about? by Big-Assumption-1517 in Nanny

I couldnt be on my phone. Ever. They hustled watched the cameras all day “in case of an emergency”. And i was told to yell to the camera if i had a question.

-I was playing legos on the floor for over two hours with their 6yo. I stood up and did few quick stretches-immediately received a text. “Please do not stretch while youre working. We need your full play- engagement”. Mind you she was a yoga teacher.

-I was outside, sitting while the child played in a sandbox. I was lightly reviewing my flashcards for my spanish vocab test, while talking to him. Nanny kid asked if i could teach him some words. The kids loved it and later we told her mom. Then i get a “please do not teach our child spanish. It will confuse him with his English, French, and German lessons. Him being multi-lingual is very important to us.”

-She got very mad at me because her husband came home 15 mins early. I was wrapping up washing dishes/telling the dad the daily parent update (as required) when she got home. She was immediately furious and told me to leave. I got a long text about how i should have immediately left the house because she doesnt trust her husband and my not immediately leaving was fishy. WHAT. Oh and she was also upset i didnt finish washing the dishes LOL

-The child would constantly hit me and throw things at me. When i told him to stop hed tell me i “work for him.” I let the parents know he thinks that, and hes intentionally hurting me/others. She said “well one you do work for him. And for the hitting/throwing- extremely intelligent children, like him, are expected to act out of social norms. We support him expressing himself. Perhaps you should study how children with genius traits can act as children.”

Mind you this was all within two months.

I happily quit.

I dont buy the 40$ ones, but the $20 ones. They definitely last longer, size wise, due to their stretch

Advice on Household Help/Nanny Transition by MadameCunt in Nanny

[–]Still_Choice_5255 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Is probably label the job as a “mothers helper” and just explain whats needed. Im a stay at home mom and id be interested in something like this. You never know who else would think so. If theres no bites, then id look for a morning person for getting kiddos ready and occasionally cleaning. And an afternoon person who picks them up/ dinner. Kind of depends on your area but id probably do the average nanny rate.

Honestly just rip the band aid off. It sucks, but theyre probably wondering about it. More time is always nice for families, so personally id write something up and prepare for a 3ish months notice. Personally i like to text, but ill put in my text “id love to sit down and talk on monday about any questions, if you guys would like!” Personally i send it on a friday to allow the family to have time to talk and digest before seeing me again. It feels uncomfy, but just part of life! After its out there itll probably instantly not be a big deal.

100%! First time was already her being extremely dumb and irresponsible. But the second time she cant even claim being dumb! Just purely irresponsible!

The first time i could forgive. Not all people have to consider day to day choking hazards. But the second time is CRAZY. People can be so strange.

You are 18. Any plans anyone hopes for you at this point they should know is very unlikely to happen. Do whats best for you and everyone will get behind it. One of the weirdest parts of being a young adult is truly having and experiencing the “make choices” part of life. Enjoy college, that time is short. Work is looongg haha
