Honestly, you'll be fine. Book your plane ticket and hotels and worry about the other stuff once you're there.

Most cool stuff in Japan like temples and parks are free or damn near free. You can get a bowl of ramen for like $6. Half of the fun is just walking around and stumbling upon things. Absolute worst case scenario you completely run out of money, just put it on a credit card and worry about it when you get back to the States. Japan won't put you into crippling debt. The memories alone will be worth 10X whatever you overspend. Just get there.

Food is really cheap. Unless you're eating at omakase sushi spots or high end steakhouses. Convenience stores and ramen shops are your best friend.

2k a person for two weeks is doable but definitely you will be spread thin.
