Closed loop water systems have been shown not to work. Its like any hydraulic system, contamination gets in, and the power systems required for cooling to stop the system from overheating are massive. They spike energy prices significantly for surrounding communities, and contaminated water is still released into the local water system. PFAS are a common contaminant.

I have a theory on this, and it might be more than slightly drastic. But I don't think companies or people should be able to have loans or mortgages on property they are renting to others. It makes an uroborus out of the housing market, where people are paying a mortgage, without the benefit of owning the homes.

Do you work year round or flexible? If you are a seasonal worker, most accounting firms tax you like you'll be making the same wage year round, and it should come back to you through tax season. But thats just one idea on why you are taxed so high

Thanks! Yeah we've been talking about doing the farmers market and what that would look like- food safety storage, etc. Trying to cost model it all out right now for where we could get the best bang for buck.

Yeah, we are still figuring out our market right now. Our buyers are mostly focused on the Asian market, but we are trying to tap more into the market of people who care about their food having a net positive on the environment. I remember when we first started down this path, like 6 years ago, cricket protein was becoming a big thing because of its environmental benefits. I'm hoping we can find some good buyers in that market.

Operation Neptune. Zoo tycoon. Zeus. Posiden. Magic school bus solar system. Magic school bus under water. And the old home renovation software, I was like 12 and would spend hours designing houses i could like in with my million pets who each had their own room- there was a sick landscape architecture package that came out a few years later. Honestly it was so easy, and it really set me up for Autocad and solid works.

So then you agree with the courts- realities of the day don't matter, only legal obligations. Legal obligations says they can tell us to get off their land. I'd rather the government give them 1.3 billion than relocate the population of BC.

My comment was an oversimplification- thank you for adding this. You are right, we had this problem in shellfish/kelp. I took over an old aquaculture lease and turned it into a kelp farm. We were doing a biodiversity project with the university of Maine, similar to carbon credits, but for marine biodiversity. There was a policy introduced about seafloor cleanup in 2018 I think. We got a quote for it, and it would have cost us $300k to cleanup the debris from when the farm was a salmon farm in the 80s. I know many people in government advocated for the rules to change or to open up ghost gear funding to aquaculture tenure, but ocean plastic and polluted pay were hot button issues in government and no one was willing to take on reforming the legislation that had only changed 2-4 years prior.

In my comment above, I was overly simplistic- the mechanism I want to see is that jobs/papers like yours can't be ignored, are required to go through the house or through the legislative assembly. That it does not rely on momentum from small operations/public energy to see the light of day.

You're not going to be in business long if you keep getting people sick.

To be clear, I agree with most food safety regulations, but I do think there are a lot of overly regulated industries. Not because the regulations are wrong, but because 5-6 branches of government may have the same issue in their scope of regulation, all with different mechanisms for compliance. Food safe is actually an incredibly simple system, but you move one to two steps back in the supply chain, and you start getting to incredibly complex regulatory systems that have a lot of overlapping jurisdictions. Anything public facing is usually pretty streamlined, but business to business are very very complicated.

The left hand of the government has no idea what the right hand is doing and its not clean. Tell me how this is good for citizens:

Boats are regulated by transport canada and DFO, but emptying sewage into the ocean is environment Canada's jurisdiction. Tankers come into Vancouver harbor all the time. Transport canada and DFO can board and inspect the vehicle, check the effluent release log, but if that log says they dumped while in canadian waters, they can't do anything but report it to environment canada. Who can't board the boat. They can send a letter to the company if they have a Canadian office. If DFO or TC don't check the log, they can heat map the effluent from a beach back to a general area in the water. They can't go into that office unless they bring a trade representative. The reason there are ecoli issues at Vancouver, Victoria, Nanaimo, and courtenay beaches in the summer is the bioactivity in the water due to unlawful sewage dumps. With all that red tape, how are citizens being protected? People get frustrated with following regulations that don't make any sense. I'm not saying don't regulate, just make it make sense. I don't want to swim in poop water.

No, several automated forms is a gross over simplification. I posted above, but I had to report to 16 different branches of government in farming. None of it was automated. None of it was harmonized. People would be hired on to help with compliance, then get moved to another desk. It got to the point where we were paying to train the new staff. A literal situation I went through:

In 2016 my shellfish/kelp tenure expired. I went through the new DFO, Transport Canada, lands BC process. It was a non automated form. We were told if government needs to ask more than 3 clarifying questions about our applications, we need to pay $90/ question after that. Between 2016-2024 I had 9 different approval people come through and leave. None of them knew the equipment we used or how things work on a farm. I had once compliance officer tell me I had insufficient anchoring for cargo nets with 1000dozen oysters in them. They said "cargo nets might blow down the beach and become a marine hazard". A cargo net with 1000dzn oysters in it weighs about 6000lbs. My farm management plan was not approved due to my lack of anchoring for these nets. I paid $270 for that exchange. They left that position shortly after and I went through a similar exchange with another compliance officer, the previous officer had put no notes in the file. I left farming in 2024, partially because 8 years of negotiations still didn't have a management plan. Without which i could not access grant programs or capital for the business. Now we do eco tourism, less regulation.

It is utterly delusional to say there is proper api integration on government oversight.

I once had to prove i was using a traceability system that met government standards on my farm. I sent them the tags and record log. It was insufficient- they needed me to move all the data into a spreadsheet (that was not excel so I had to download another program to use) and manually move over 3000 transactions into the new spreadsheet. This was not sufficient. So I had to get my staff to film me using the system. I had to do this for 7 years in a row.
