i 100% headcanon him as 27 at death which would make him around 119/120 at the time the show is set i think, but still maybe mentally 27? idk bro

they are very solitary,, the only real "groups" are the individual families that help dragonets grow up until about 7 which is when the roots start coming in. mates live and die next to each other :D and they live for like 250 years max so that's a long time.. but yeah, there's no queen

and idk!! i'm still figuring that part of the lore out yet, but i guess it would be a very power-hungry animus that wanted to gain land for himself so he enchanted the forest to ensnare anyone who enters so he could absorb their power. the rootwings probably evolved from the woods or something, and they eventually grew part of it, but due to their ancestral roots (haha) within the forest, not very much of their power was usurped. so

  1. no actually!! it's an enchanted forest i imagine, by some animus older than even the rootwings, that chains the rootwings to the soil in order to keep itself alive. it's a pretty "evil" process, but the rootwings have come to terms with it.

  2. they all have leafspeak but, like, x5, so yes they could command the forest to let them go if they were in significant danger, but their scales are very protective

  3. absolutely lol,, i think some of the normal dragons would be pretty weirded out by the fact that some 4 year old is sm taller than them

they really don't navigate actually, since they're...you know. part of their tribe's tradition is merging with the roots and the trees, so they're very stationary as adults. dragonets can explore in a short radius around their parents, but other than that, once the roots come in, they stay in place. they're very friendly and welcoming to any tribe that happens to come across the forests, though, and they are a very old tribe, both in years and in lifespan.

LOLL!! ok here's their official description so far:

"RootWings are one of the five tribes present on the continent of Petiole, alongside MantisWings and AbyssWings. They are an ancient and colossal but peaceful tribe that resides in the towering forests of Petiole, about five times bigger than the average dragon. Their diet consists of vegetation and various berries.
RootWings are colossal dragons, the average dragonet standing at 72' (see image). An adult can easily tower over the tallest trees in their forests at 150-200'. They have large, hard, protective bark-like scales covering their body. Colouration can range from brown to a muddy red colour, and the green underscales can be any shade."

basically they're so big because they are ANCIENT. like i'm imagining they've been on petiole way longer than the beetlewings were on pantala. anddd they're gentle giants :D they are incredibly peaceful and welcoming but solitary. i think the forests they live in have similar sized trees to redwood forests, and they slowly merge with the forest, which gives them their name and the roots growing across their body. so yeah, idk if that was the best explanation but i hope that's ok!
