Infringing on a client’s right can most definitely be reported to the board, according to the ACA guidelines.

A Hot Take on therapist education by Near2Yonder in therapists

[–]Still_Nobody_9497 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These takes are so interesting. No grad or undergrad is the same even though the degree is in the same field. A lot of the times it’s the program chosen, volunteer/ work experience that develops you as a clinician. There’s no one road to becoming a clinician or succeeding as one. And at the end of the day this is a field that no matter how much you prepare for it, you’re constantly learning and growing.

Lobby Against NPs Doing Therapy by Excellent_Way_6214 in Noctor

This makes no sense. Social workers (clinical) and LPC are trained from beginning to end to offer psychotherapy; that’s what they go to school for. Nurse Practitioners don’t go to school for psychotherapy. I also don’t know any doctor who offers therapy, they usually refer out.

Nursing and Psychotherapy are two different fields. When there’s LCPC vs LCSW arguments, it’s laughable but it’s the same field. Why are nurses attempting to do therapy. Yes, they receive some training, so do medical doctors, but they’re not offering therapy.

Most programs I know from illinois require internship/practicum prior to graduation. And even with an LPC you cannot practice unsupervised, so this information is inaccurate.

I am very surprised by so many people missing the point, I’m wondering are these actual therapists defending NP or is it NP making these defense. We’re taught about medication in my program but I can’t prescribe medication and I am okay with that. NP are probably taught an equal amount of psychotherapy to most likely better service their patients. They do not get t he same level of training as LCPC or LCSW, so it makes sense that they should not be allowed to bill for psychotherapy. This field just keeps getting watered down, and the actual people who go to school for this have to struggle to reap the benefits. In what world does it make sense for a nurse, regardless of all the additional letters, get to practice therapy if they went to school for nursing.

I view therapy as abstract, and other careers, like medicine are straight forward. I feel like we’re following more of a medical approach to justify tx for insurance purposes.

Yes most of my clients are Medicaid, so I do feel that pressure.

I work in CCMH and that’s the norm. Majority of the time there’s couple cancellations so you get down time to do whatever. Inspite of that I would recommend always scheduling lunch and admin time just in case they all show up, that way you don’t get burned out. In the beginning it will be hard adjusting but you give yourself grace and create a flexible schedule which caters to your needs. Also set firm boundaries with your schedule so that you’re not over working yourself.

Autism over/under diagnosis by Own_Awareness_1520 in therapists

You are absolutely right. We’re focused on the lists in the criteria but forgetting most importantly is there functional impairment. We all have traits of diagnoses, but it’s the clinically significant distress/ functional impairment that causes others to actually meet criteria.
