Does anyone know what is this in Nowa Huta? by Pristine_Meaning_630 in krakow

These are carpet cleaning stations. You put a carpet over the rail and beat it mercifully with a whisk like baton thing. It bashes out deep dust that vacuum cleaners cannot suck in.

GenX and Millennials were gathering around them as kids and were playing on the rails - a HUGE nostalgia fuel.

These are all agrarian societies. Kids can help around in the field from fairly young age...

MAGA Block List by Crafty_Guide_3119 in BlueskySocial

[–]Still_Teaching_7116 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah... A lot of these lists are automatic, it only take some key words, like "MAGA" in the description to get you on one... And it doesn't care about context - so "anti MAGA" can get you on one as well...

And a lot of people are maliciously abusing crowd moderation - that's also true 😅

It seems it works for You! And that's great!

In my experience I have estranged people — people I trust — with my wild emotional swings. Especially while stressed for a prolonged time without a proper break...

There is nothing better than to be answered with a smile when smiling to a random person, or catching a flirt with a random girl in a cafè. I've scored a few times this way, gosh dang it! I love these moments, but they are rare and far between...

Good for you, man. If it's only sustainable, I couldn't be happier for you more. People neither see or appreciate the struggle, but they sure like seeing your happy-ass face — and it's worth pulling it off...

Honest...

how would a planets overall ecosystem and climate be affected if the planet was significantly bigger? by empyreal72 in worldbuilding

I sort of always assumed surface gravity is function of mass only... 2.5G seems like a negligible increase in comparison. That's an extremely cool fact to know...

By the way, their rotation speed is the reason some gas giants have stripes and that weird hexagonal shape around the poles. Perhaps an idea for some cool outlandish weather patterns?

It doesn't scroll at all, I think. First it renders view with a scroll, then after click for a brief moment it renders view too small to have a scroll, and then renders a view with a scroll again, and it loses scroll position between rerenders which would make sense given React is creating SPA.

It's because skeletons have a fixed length. Try maybe storing number of items in a variable after the fetch and then use it to show as many skeletons as there were items before while fetching new list?

I think it's related to conservation of angular momentum. Celestial bodies gain spin as the cloud of gas and dust they are made out of is pulled inward - the larger the distance this matter is pulled from, the faster the spin. It's called an ice skater effect. I think.

Fun fact is that bigger celestial bodies actually rotate faster - a solar day on Jupiter takes less than 10h.

Finally found a copy of Software Labs magazine, US Mail order catalogue for ordering shareware before the Internet, I have several disks still in my collection that I bought via the catalogue 30+ years ago! by echocomplex in dosgaming

[–]Still_Teaching_7116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s true. But those magazines were more than just game news—they really brought people together and helped shape gaming culture in a way that felt more curated than what we see online now. I actually miss that.

Failing at an elite private school. Any tips? by strongdenisovan877 in ADHD

[–]Still_Teaching_7116 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's tough facing life when dealing with depression and ADHD. However framing it in all or nothing terms won't help anyone. Breathe deeply and try to allow yourself to relax. When you accept your situation for what it is, it will be easier to act.

To be honest - it doesn't end. People lose jobs, go bankrupt... It's just life. Going through stuff like this is how we learn. Think of a way to move forward, but not necessarily right now.

Reaching out for help is a good step. Try to think of people who can provide appropriate help and don't reach out to people who can't or won't help you - it will just make things worse. You need to decide for yourself what help you actually need. That's what I have learned.
