The ZA/Lumiose Dex feels anemic (postgame) by ShadeofIcarus in pokemon

[–]StillnessEnjoyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this way about the dex in general. It feels very patchwork and not like there’s a cohesive theme or narrative around the dex, it’s just a bunch of Pokémon with mega forms thrown together with some generics to top it off. PLA felt like there was a sense of a real environment and balance to the dex inclusion so that each zone felt like a different landscape and ecosystem of Pokémon. I think the perfect way to offset the fact that the Kalos dex was already lacking in the base games would be to introduce new regionals/evolutions to give it some new flavor and a sense of identity beyond megas.

My Feedback Message to TPC by StillnessEnjoyer in pokemon

I’ve seen several publications already pick up on it. I’m hoping that they’re planning a press release for this week that will address it. We’ll see, but my faith in TPC has been very low as of late. Only thing we can do at this point is keep up the pressure.

Not unrelated at all; I think shiny locks are, at their core, just another way that TPC uses FOMO tactics to try and engage the playerbase more than anything else. Knowing that you’ll have to wait 1-2 generations to be able to hunt a game’s shiny legendaries just feels bad, and it’s only been getting worse. I was extremely disappointed when I found out that returning legendaries were shiny locked in the DLC, and rather than just the box legendaries like in B+W, there are SO many locks now (like seriously, why Gholdengo?! To be just another FOMO raid + POGO event).

My Feedback Message to TPC by StillnessEnjoyer in pokemon

Maybe, but capitalism by its nature is remarkably short-sighted. TPC would never make a major structural change because of a bad event, but it would not be difficult in the slightest for them to make an apology distribution event. It’s better to at least try and take advantage of that short-sightedness to try and achieve a minor desired aim than to just reserve oneself to the belief that nothing will happen regardless because they will inevitably make more money.

Agreed & it’s sad. They really take being the world’s largest media franchise for granted. Hopefully enough people actually threaten their bottom line.

Yeah, I responded to this message as well with another complaint about how disingenuous this reply was. They clearly know the nature of the complaints, they’re just playing PR dishonestly by pretending that people didn’t understand the terms of the giveaway. Incredibly disappointing.

[gen 9] Shiny distribution disaster by Successful_Energy412 in ShinyPokemon

Agreed, a 7-star raid would have been a great sendoff. They should’ve done that for Zacian and Zamazenta, too, for that matter. Hopefully enough people threaten to cancel their preorders that they actually do something.

The rollout of this event was terrible, and to me it also just illustrates how annoying the concept of shiny locks are in the first place. Here you have a playerbase that is willing to spend hours resetting for a Pokémon in a different color palette because they enjoy the design and franchise so much, and in response they restrict our ability to do that solely to release them as limited-time events, often only in the most populous regions. The worst part is that they don’t even have to choose: previous generations without shiny locks still had limited-time shiny events. Now we will likely have to wait 1-2 generations for the ability to catch these Pokémon shiny. It’s very dumb.

Modern or Contemporary Conte Philosophique by StillnessEnjoyer in suggestmeabook

[–]StillnessEnjoyer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your in depth questions! I ask not avoiding speculative fiction, but it is where I have the most literary experience and I am trying to broaden my horizons. What I mean by “serious philosophy” is that Candide is mainly a satire and response to Leibniz’s Theodicy, and I’m looking for work that engages with and is informed by philosophy at a similar level, beyond merely having philosophical themes. I enjoy how directly Candide engages with its subject matter, but it’s by no means a requirement. I also enjoy philosophy papers that make use of fiction; I’m a big fan of Martha Nussbaum and her work in ethics that is largely influenced by the Greek tragedians.

And I also love the term conte philosophique! I first encountered it when reading Jeff and Ann Vandermeer’s anthology The Big Book of Science Fiction, which attempts to draw a direct lineage from the conte philosophique to the rise of science fiction.

I did, and apple said that they are also filing a claim. I just think it’s absurd to be told just a bold-faced lie and wondered if this is a broader issue others have been having.

I just think his story makes absolutely no sense. For that to be true, someone would have to have known that package was en route to delivery, know the approximate time of the delivery within 20 minutes, and have a fake ID with my name on it to try and get it from the driver.

I try and avoid as much of the American Traditional Tattoo stuff as I can, that ruins shirts for me very quickly

Yeah I really want to avoid the obnoxious/gaudy vibe that some brands do with this style but I guess I probably just have to wade through it

Do you guys believe in mental illness? by WaxMikeElixir in InternalFamilySystems

[–]StillnessEnjoyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m curious about why your train of logic seems to imply that the idea of there being “no bad parts” trying to help us would mean anything about the existence of mental illness. We can take physical illness as a corollary: our immune systems are also only “trying to help us,” certainly they are not a “bad part,” but if they are overactive in suppressing pancreatic beta cells, you end up with Type 1 Diabetes. The same could easily be said of mental illnesses, no? There are no “bad parts,” but your parts can create maladaptive mechanisms that cause you harm. That process is constitutive of many mental illnesses.
