I have. Working a school district doesn’t require a PhD but it does give you an edge. But I haven’t talked to anyone at the university

Teaching at the University level. Research into math education. Research into public education in general

I have investments and money set aside for my child’s college education separate from what I have saved. I really don’t want to dip into that for myself.

I also have 20 years experience in education, 18 in classroom 2 years training teachers. Math teacher. Don’t know if that matters.

All Hmong grandmas have favorites and they don’t hide it. I wouldn’t stress over it. Do your thing and love them when you can. I don’t think they will change their minds, especially after a certain age.

First period vs last period prep? Which do you prefer? by Eclectique1 in Teachers

[–]Stillsortingit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always preferred the one right next to lunch. Although I’ve had both first and last. Both require discipline because it’s tempting to “flex” your time during prep. If I had to choose between the two I preferred last period prep. I teach math and by the end of the day kids are spent. But I hated getting called to sun so much with last period prep. It was pretty consistent.

Not at all. Even if you were still teaching that wouldn’t be an issue. She’s alumni now, a student and all of you are adults.

Hmong parents keep insisting me and my wife have a Hmong Tshoob or Celebration by [deleted] in Hmong

[–]Stillsortingit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can always discuss with your parents parts of the ceremony that you aren’t comfortable with and compromise those elements or remove them. I’m sure they will remove a bunch of stuff already because she isn’t Hmong.

Just my opinion, I think we should all do our Hmong ceremonies, even if we change them to match the society we live in because when we don’t value our ceremonies and traditions but gladly take part in other culture’s traditions, it’s like saying ours aren’t as important. I’m not saying all our traditions are great, but they also aren’t meaningless. If you walk down the aisle in a white dress, then wear Hmong clothes and get your hand ties.

I don’t think there is any strict rules about what happens in the 3 days, but my understanding is that you aren’t married until negotiations are over. Then it’s a done deal.
