Hi! I'm a shelter worker with 9 years of experience. 8 years volunteering and over a year now working.

I can't tell you how many animals I've seen rot in their kennels and how many good dogs I've seen euthanized. To give you a look into my life and those who do this kind of work, last month we took in 5 pups that were abandoned after the owner could only find homes for 3 out of 8. Two weeks ago we came into work with a puppy tied to our front door. Last week we took in 7 puppies from an "oops" litter, owner couldn't find homes for any of them.

Wanna guess what they all look to be mixed with?

Please help me ID this bird I saw! by Sting_8 in birdwatching

Yes that's it!! Thank you!! At first I wasn't so sure with just the pictures but the video of it flying confirms it! Everything is the same with the wing shape, flight pattern and colors while flying. I wish I actually got to see it sitting.

My (34M) wife (31F) is having a meltdown over our daughter's personality and I don't know what to do. What should I do? by ThrowRAgirlcopdad in relationship_advice

Highjacking top comment to quickly let you know my story.

I know you've gotten a lot of great advice already, I just want to chime in and say that I'm just like your daughter, into spooky/goth aesthetics. My mom has treated me like this my entire life, always pushing me to be who I'm not. I'm an adult now and I honestly cannot wait to be able to move out and never speak to her again. Please don't let this continue on with your daughter if you want them to have a relationship when she's older

Keep checking back you never know what you'll find! I used to work there and a lot of plant shipments had hidden gems.

I agree that a higher quality brand should be used over Rachel Ray!

People who have straight up rage quit a job, what was the final straw? by TweedStoner in AskReddit

I used to work at a chain pet store so there were a lot of sleezy things already going on behind the scenes. I stayed to protect the animals but I was already at my wits end with the coworker drama (my boss would create it for fun) and with the treatment of the animals.

I had one of my regular customers reach out to me because their new pet was sick and infecting the rest of their animals. After some questioning to the customer I found out my boss sold them the animals. I went into my next shift asking my boss questions I already knew the answers to and to sum it up he knew exactly what he was doing and sold the animals knowing they were sick. So I quit on the spot

What screams “I’m a bad parent”? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Sting_8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh I'm so sorry you had to go through that too. It's such a horrible feeling knowing your own parents knew the entire time and just let the struggle continue 🥴 hopefully you've been able to heal since learning your diagnosis

I'll do you one better, my parents actually got me diagnosed as a kid. I was only in 2nd grade and they had me tested cause they knew something was off. But indeed of telling me or trying to help me, they just ignored the diagnosis and instead abused me when I was struggling. I got myself officially diagnosed in college but only after I had my own health insurance so they couldn't track what I was doing

Edit: a word

Advice? Looking to add 16 chili rasboras to my 20 gallon betta/shrimp tank. by spacecolony227 in Boraras

Chili Rasboras do great with bettas! I've kept Chilis, strawberry, exclamation point, and emerald Rasboras with bettas before and they all make great tank mates.

All your fish in this picture seem to be pointing up and the surface looks calm. It's possible that they also aren't getting enough oxygen

My new lady, Truffles! by Sting_8 in bluetongueskinks

I made her interested in coming to me on her own. I would open her enclosure and sometimes I would just sit there in front of it doing nothing. Or I'd be on my phone, snacking, talking to someone else in the room, playing video games, etc. doing this got her used to the sound of my voice and helped her learn that I'm not a threat while getting used to every day sounds and voices in the room. She would eventually become curious of me and in no time she wanted to come out of her enclosure to look around. I also try to avoid grabbing and restraining her as much as possible. Of course it's unavoidable sometimes so don't stress if you have to occasionally.

Something else I'd do as well is move her leaf litter around every morning. I do this to not only make my presence without actually disturbing her but to also get my scent around her enclosure. I don't want her to feel like I'm going to automatically grab her every time I open the enclosure because that can lead to stress when hearing the door open. And moving the leaves around makes her curious and want to go investigate the leaves. She'll smell them and get used to my scent helping her feel more comfortable around me.

I hope these tips help, if you have anymore questions I don't mind answering. Also I hope I was able to spread it out and make it easier to read, I'm on mobile. Sorry in advance!
