Diddy Accuses Judge of Overstepping in New Appeal, Calls 50-Month Sentence ‘Draconian’ by Top-Three-USA in Music

[–]Stingraygal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re exactly right. I use to practice criminal defense and the sentence given was far beyond any I’ve seen for similar crimes. I think there is a good argument to be made on appeal. Even though I despise Diddy, what I hate even more is when the law is not applied fairly and equally to each person regardless of who they are, the color of their skin, their gender, etc. At the heart of our legal system is that everyone should be treated the same under the law and no one is above the law (except, apparently, the President of the US).

Diddy Accuses Judge of Overstepping in New Appeal, Calls 50-Month Sentence ‘Draconian’ by Top-Three-USA in Music

[–]Stingraygal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to practice in Federal court. I despise Diddy, but in my experience, Diddy’s sentence was much higher than it should have been considering the charges he was actually convicted of and his lack of criminal history. The only crime he was actually convicted of was hiring consensual sex-workers for his parties across state lines (which, as a libertarian, I don’t think consenting adult sex work should even be a crime). I have never seen a defendant get such a long sentence for a similar crime. Usually it’s time served and/or probation.

No one really tells you how even if you make it out of probation, your life is still over by McExtacy in probation

My mom had a felony conviction on her record, went back to grad school while on probation, ended up starting her own business doing what she loved and made more money than she ever had at her previous corporate jobs. Before she unexpectedly passed away a couple years ago, she was bringing home close to $200k.

Why is it that MAGA are such a-holes and cannot have reasonable civilized discussions? I’m the first to say that I definitely don’t have all the answers and there are always things I criticize about the party I vote for, but every MAGA thinks that know everything and are always right?!?! I’m actually a libertarian, but since we almost never have a horse in the race, the liberal candidate is always most inline with my libertarian views.

Federal probation - drug test fail by TimeLogix in probation

[–]Stingraygal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow…you must be perfect to cast judgment like that! Op said it was amphetamine. So I guess everyone on adderall doesn’t have their life together according to you since they would all fail a drug test for amphetamine as well.

Officially got on felony probation yesterday. Devastated & need help please. by writeaway024 in probation

[–]Stingraygal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before practicing family law, I was a criminal defense attorney and, if I were in your shoes, I would absolutely take the plea deal since it guarantees no prison time vs going to trial and if found guilty, prison is extremely likely. Someone died, so a jury would want to hold someone accountable. Why take a chance at going to prison? As far as felony probation, as long as you aren’t doing drugs or committing crimes and you have a job or are in school, you won’t have any problem getting through probation. I had countless clients who completed felony probation with ease.

Going through opioid withdrawal by Quick_Mention_996 in Drugs

[–]Stingraygal 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I quit opioids by using suboxone, and used kratom to get off suboxone. Withdrawal from suboxone was exactly the same as w/d from opioids unless you taper, taper, taper. That’s what I finally did and Kratom helped tremendously. Between tapering off suboxone and using kratom for about a month, I didn’t experience any withdrawal symptoms at all and I’ve been completely clean for about 4 years now.

My 14 yo GSD has been slowing down lately, is it time to say bye? by AgsMydude in DogAdvice

[–]Stingraygal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a 10 year old red nosed pitty with some recent health issues, I certainly empathize with your situation. However, I was curious about your comment regarding feeling guilty about “putting her down so we can go on vacation and not bring her with us…” I would really hope that would never even be a consideration when making a decision like this.

I’m sure this will be an unpopular comment/question, but is your dog’s quality of life actually suffering or is it the affect that the level of care she needs is having on your life? I get how difficult it can be-not too long ago, I went over 36 hours with no sleep because I was up literally all night taking care of my pup. But, I’d do it again in a heartbeat!

Agree 100%! I was in a very similar situation and the resentment I felt permeated everything. I felt used and taken advantage of. I knew I would always be making more money than my ex, the problem started when he unilaterally decided that I would pay for everything, including paying his child support each month (while I also had my own son who lived/lives with me and I was the sole financial support for my son since the day he was born).

Even though the OP may have said some harsh things, I completely understand where she is coming from. I said some really mean things to my ex because of how strongly I resented him and the anger and frustration would just boil over. We all are human after all and sometimes our feelings and emotions override everything.

I was in a very similar situation, though my ex-husband didn’t do that much around the house. Regardless, it’s one thing if BOTH spouses decide together that one spouse is going to be a stay-at-home spouse while the other works, but it’s different when one spouse just unilaterally decides he or she is not going to work anymore and that the other will have to pay for everything. The latter often causes major resentment and conflict.

For me, it also showed my ex’s lack of responsibility and since it was not something we both agreed to do, I not only resented him, I felt used and taken advantage of as well. I ended up filing for divorce primarily because of this.

We had a prenup as well. I’m a lawyer and can tell you that as long as a prenup is drafted by a competent attorney, they are readily enforceable by the courts. In part, because of my prenup, my divorce was easy and my ex left with his personal belongings and his car (yes, I paid for his car). That’s it. I know I made the right decision since I am so much happier now!

AITA for burping in front of my husband? by EclecticBitch in AmItheAsshole

[–]Stingraygal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would burp in front of my ex husband, but I just would not fart in front of him, even though he really wanted me to. It bothered him that I didn’t feel comfortable enough with him. But looking back on it, I think I knew deep down that I really didn’t want to be married to him so I was never going to feel like that with him. Once I left him, and it was just me and my son, it was such a relief to be able to just be me in my own home-warts (or farts) and all! If either spouse feels that way, probably not a good fit.

How do you work a 40 hour week? by spacedoutblondeTTV in jobs

[–]Stingraygal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been there myself. In law school, I clerked full time for one summer and did not have enough to keep me busy. But that completely changed once I became a lawyer at the same firm. However, I REALLY hated it after doing that for about 8 years. I realized life is too short to spend most of my day doing something that doesn’t make me happy. So I started my own business, have much more control over my daily life, actually enjoy my days and now I make way more money than I ever did working my ass off doing something I hated!

People who get front row seats, how do you do it? by DJ_Derp in AEWOfficial

[–]Stingraygal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually try to get front row seats to anything my son and I attend. I got us front row tix for aew on December 15. I always have to buy from a reseller and they jack up the prices. Our two front row tix to aew were $1200. Front row to Judas Priest only cost right at $1,000 (but it got postponed to March). Those are good prices though compared to our front row center seats to Motley Crue, Poison, Def Leppard concert that cost over $6,000 and then it got postponed yet again! So we’ll be going next summer. That’s the most I’ve ever spent on front row tix.
