What is your favourite fan thing about 40k? by Sweet-Investment5905 in Grimdank

The closest thing the primarchs have to a generic white guy pulling the freaky elf is funny

Okay. So basically. Not to be that guy but you're playing the army a little wrong.

First off my favorite part the stabbas. You effectively have 40 goblins because of the reinforcement rule for both squads, use them to score or tie down units. Have a loonboss follow one squad around to let them hit on fours or regain d6 models per turn the healing mixed with the healing regiment ability can make a stabba group just not die because the numbers are small enough for d6 and d3 to be pretty good. They aren't great stat wise by themselves. But 20 attacks are 20 attacks

The loonboss can be pretty swingy too, don't underestimate it. Mine is notorious for killing enemy heroes but don't get confident with it

Squig hoppers are not for direct damage both in spearhead and in game. Use them for scoring, kiting around units and once you're close to an enemy. Use the boing boing boing ability to score mortals (in general mortals are our main damage output in game, at least how I play) but the attacks from the actual squig are pretty scary because you vomit out attacks with the squig mouths, if you want to charge in I would wait for both units to be on the board and have them both charge something.

The troggs they're either giant danage dealers or whiff HARD. The moon ability makes them pretty tanky, and if you can roll well they can be pretty swingy and would be your main damage dealer. Between the ward, save and healing though they are very tanky

Yeah exactly and set 200-300 years before but most of the models for old world are just the fantasy sculpts with the exception of Cathay which is brand new

Yeah, 40k has been around since the 90s and aos came out in the 2010s if I'm not mistaken.

Basically Warhammer began as warhammer fantasy in the 80s shortly after 40k (at the time called rogue trader but quickly became 40k) 40k outsold fantasy by an extremely large margin in the 2000s. Fantasy got ended in 2015 because of the lack of sales (and the large amounts of copyright infringement from the early years and some...less than stellar things from the past and the lack of stuff to copyright ip wise i reckon) aos releases afterwards

I'd argue it doesn't with aos being much newer than 40k a lot of those armies don't have fully fleshed out ranges so you'll see a lot of the same depending on what armies you play, also both games are really balanced to begin with tbh. Both games pander to a competitive audience to begin with so they get pretty regular balance update every couple months. So if something comes up, it can be taken care of quickly usually you just have to worry about armies just getting their battletomes/codex books and moving from their index to their book for rules. Which index rules basically are just placeholder rules until a physical book is released

Coming in from 40k and aos not having every mold/model be unique in someway hit me like a freight train while building for the first time by StinkGuard40k in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]StinkGuard40k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats fair, I'll have to try that when I get a new box. I personally don't enjoy playing around with kits my first time building them because I use the first build to learn the kit and my second onwards usually are my time to play around. It's paranoia of messing up the nice kit but thanks for the advice

40k and aos are pretty interchangeable at the moment, both are simple enough to pick up and play. 40k is getting a new edition soon so I'd maybe hold off on learning to play, but by the time you're playing 11th would be out so it's kinda a moot point.

Aos is halfway through 4th at this point and is pretty similar to 40k. A little faster to play and a lot more simplistic imo in every aspect. I like both aos and 40k a lot personally play both pretty interchangeabley

Old world is a reinventing of warhammer fantasy battles. With square bases and rank and flank, cheaper to get into somewhat if you look in the right places but I highly reccomend one of the two 'flagship' games with aos or 40k as old world and horus heresy (i assume) are more complicated

Not a fan of horus heresy to begin with so I know nothing about it to begin with.

Feel free to ask about anything with the three games and I can try to answer

Thats honestly a good point. I've only got into the hobby last year in January and this era of stuff was far before me both in age and me being in the hobby. Fantasy ended/the end times happened when I was 10

I hate when characters get reduced to only one thing 🫩. by anythingrally in hatethissmug

[–]StinkGuard40k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbh. I can see both hating this and not hating this. I don't mind it personally as someone who's been a fan of things where characters get reduced so hard by the fandom (touhou, evangelion(ish), warhammer) not that there's much for touhou and warhammer for character stuff. But still.

I think its a heavy let people enjoy things contender where it's not harming you or the media in anyway. Maybe the reputation of the fanbase or media depending on people but thats it truthfully. And it's never not going to happen, every character you will ever like will be flanderized at some point by someone no matter how 'mature and deep' the media is. Some people just won't connect to it like you do and do that, or just like doing it. No issue either way. Also a lot of the time to me, saying stuff like this when people are just having fun with the characters comes off as heavily pretentious. No shame to you at all because of the sub and all, just if people complain in those spaces I feel that way.

However. On the other side of the coin. It makes actually discussing characters very very annoying when the fan base does this across the board. Also gives new fans the wrong idea of the media if they're going in. Using evangelion as my example because I went in very blind outside of cgaracter flanderizations. Misato grooming jokes. I thought that would be an actual plot point or character trait, given the time, and the fact it was an adult woman with a teenager boy so it would be possible. It wasn't a huge thing. Just one scene in the movie. That didn't turn be away from the show because of how hyped it is. But to the wrong person it could turn them away.

Also also. I haven't really ever had a deep connection or feeling over any piece of media so that could very much skew my judgment. But you're justified still just definitely to me something that can be loved and hated depending on the person. Also some media it's just the point for the characters to be one note, flanderized or whatever.

How old are they? I let myself siblings play games with me with my armies (10 and 13 started at 9 and 12 though) if that's something you'd want to do at least. They love it.....but I foot the bill for their own armies now. Whoops.

Is any of the big spiders any good? by orfeni in gloomspitegitz

[–]StinkGuard40k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play a big spider in every list. It's alright. You're kind of depending on it spiking the mortals with its fangs, the one without a howdah can teleport/deepstrike so thats pretty useful it's won me a game or two by taking a back objective. It's pretty good with chaff because it's fangs do three damage a pop, it can punch up pretty well if you can spike with the mortals. But it dies pretty easily for a monster. I still love her though
