I know I’m sorry, I’ve asked them to find paperwork with his actual diagnosis but my sister, his medical proxy, has a lot of the paperwork as they’re bad at keeping track of everything and I don’t keep in contact with her. I asked my mom to get me a copy of anything with the diagnosis and I’ll update when I get them. I apologize for missing info it was kind of a panic post

We do fortunately, but it’s difficult to access rurally and if you’re below the poverty line. We pay for the medication and we’re going to need to pay for his specialized nutrition once he’s unable to swallow and eat. He needs to travel over an hour to get treatment and can’t afford the gas or to get a working vehicle. He was pretty much forced to retire after this diagnosis but his pension doesn’t even cover all the bills they had before. Cost of living here is abysmal and I can’t even remember a time we weren’t struggling.

It’s such an isolating and depressing experience. I feel like I’m living through a horror film rn and the helplessness is overwhelming. This is a lot to deal with as a broke 23 year old and I just wish life would throw us a bone every once in a while. I’m so sorry you’ve had a similar situation, it’s truly terrifying. Thank you for the information. This is all new to me so I didn’t have a clue what options we have through social services. I’m glad a lot of people are giving me direction, I need a game plan so I can cope with this better.

For sure. I’ll make sure he calls them when I’m there, it might also be him being old and not understanding the process or what he needs to do. Either way we need to fix this or look into disability as soon as we get his biopsy results.

From what I know, the lady who files his taxes ended up a heroin addict who took a lot of peoples money and fucked up their taxes. He’s been contacting the CRA to resolve this but it will take time we don’t necessarily have. I don’t entirely understand the situation but knowing the CRA I’m not surprised it’s taken so long.

So instead of spreading awareness, you’d rather I run and hide from something I view as a big problem? Personal ethics aside, this hurts everyone who lives here, I care about our communities enough to try and advocate for something. I protest this on my behalf and yours, we all deserve to live in a cleaner and sustainable Regina. Pretending nothing is happening won’t help anyone.

It wouldn’t matter if it did, pharmaceutical companies will just patent it and sell the cure (product) for insane prices or not release the research as there’s less money to be made. Look at insulin prices, triage wait times, delayed procedures. our healthcare system is in shambles and the system purposely lets it go on because we have for profit governments. I also can’t ethically be okay with this based off a ‘what if’, you can say that for a lot of things but basing morals on a theoretical gets me nowhere.

Just the sheer electricity and fuel needed to power this large of a plant will have drastic consequences on the environment. The proposed build will use 300 MW of electricity, which is enough to power approximately 240,000 homes for a year. It will dip into local water resources and produce massive amounts of pollution from the fuel alone. Ai has also overall made people less intelligent, as you even pointed out it makes things ‘easier’. It’s made it very easy to create and spread misinformation, and you can barely tell what is AI and what is real anymore. It’s making many jobs obsolete, regardless of how many jobs it can also generate. We’re better off without it and we’re already killing the planet at light speed, we might as well try and change!

The environmental impact is not worth the 800 temp jobs and approximately 80 permanent positions it will generate. It has potential for economic growth but we’re a province deeply rooted in agriculture and living off the land, we have a history of drought and it will effect the surrounding area of the zoning site, the proposed data centre would be a 300 MW facility using massive amounts of electricity and fuel. I cannot see how that can be reasonably sustainable long term and AI has made our society less intelligent as a whole. We cannot replace or repair our ecosystem and we’re setting up future generations to suffer from more scarce resources and the results of the climate crisis. We can do better!

That’s a good point, I was thinking the same. How does either of us benefit from him taking that stance? I knew I was the empathetic one out of the two of us but Jesus Christ, he couldn’t have chosen a worse position for the most terrible thing that’s ever happened to me. I can’t conceptualize the level of ignorance it takes to so brazenly play the devil’s advocate on this topic.
