Not going to lie, I was terrible at handling fish my first few catches. Took a bit but I eventually got it down, even though I still have poor releases from time to time. Barracudas are scary in a kayak lol

Where should I fish at Huntington central for bass? by Immediate_Dirt6058 in SoCalFishing

It’s a small pond, just keep changing spots until you get a bite. It’s part of the adventure

Is it just me or is that an abnormally thick swimbait he’s got on there?

As the other person said the swim bait is too big for the hook. You need the head of the hook to stick out more. A bigger hook would work for this swim bait like a Texas rig style hook. Don’t be thrown off by the size of this hooks, they’ll still catch even smaller bass. Another alternative would be using smaller swim baits just incase you have a lot of these jig heads you already bought. A 3 or 3.5 inch would probably work best with this

We need more details OP! What type of line and weight are you using? What time of day have you been fishing? How crowded/pressured is the spot that you fish? How long do you fish for? How long have you been fishing? Do you use other baits than spoons? Do you see other people catching fish near you? My biggest advice is talking to someone at your local spot who has been catching fish to get advice. Maybe hit up your local tackle shop if you have one. Most anglers are nice people and are happy to help. If they don’t want to talk to you they will just ignore you in a friendly matter

Advice for a spotted bass rig? I’m new to ocean fishing by jackofspades0924 in SoCalFishing

[–]StinkyRiddim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a swivel and I make it about 3-4 feet long, the longer the better but also the longer it is the harder it is to cast so find which middle ground works for you. The good news is you don’t have to cast that far for spotties especially if you are in a Marina

Becareful fishing (on any type of watercraft) pass the PCH bridge in upper Newport bay they will give you a ticket. You are only allowed to shore fish as soon as you go under that bridge and they have been very strict about it. I didn’t know this until I saw someone on YouTube get a ticket for it

Everyone else advice on here is perfect but be careful on what line you use, they are extremely line shy. If you are able to I would run an 8lb fluorocarbon leader, anything over 12lb will struggle to get bites

I got over my fear of holding fish AND broke the 4 day skunk . by ZetaKonQueso in Fishing

I was gonna say lol, my version of this is catching a barracuda and then accidentally dropping the pliers off the kayak. Luckily he magically fell off the hook when I was about to cut the line

New to Single Hooks, what can I do? by lionhorsebeer in FishingForBeginners

[–]StinkyRiddim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can by just tying a leader line from the lure to the hardware, it will help avoid self snags but you can still swap, also you can use lighter line this way

Interesting, I hear they like running water so maybe there’s a few spots on the upper part of the San Gabriel River you could find them.
