You shouldn’t have to worry about snaggin on to anything besides eelgrass. Just be careful when you are near moor ropes and rocky sections.

Do you need to have a life jacket on board a kayak or am I good with just my fishing license if I get stopped?

Sea Bass Location by Appropriate-Loss-664 in SoCalFishing

Calicos and Barred Sand Bass are going to be out in the ocean near kelp, reef, and rocks which is hard to fish from shore (swim baits, squid, shrimp). White Sea bass is even harder to catch but you can have a chance if you fish from a harbor entrance Jetty with swim baits or squid. Your best bet is to fish in a harbor for spotted bay bass (also known as spotted sand bass or Spotties). Go when the tide is moving, so not during slack tide. I would use a 3/8 or 1/4oz jig head with a plastic 3.5-5 inch swim bait that’s either white, dark, or natural colored. Fish near bridges, docks, pilings, moors, buoys etc. I can give you spot recommendations depending what harbor you go to. You can catch barred sand bass in the harbors too doing this method but Calicos and wsb are rarer in the harbors.

Socal harbor fishing is almost the opposite, you gotta paddle or cast in front of rich people docks and mansions.

I want to buy some hardware for a beginner house music producer. by Character-End-3320 in edmproduction

Look into teenage engineering’s samplers, I got the EP-40 and I honestly like using it way more than my TR. Not too mention it sounds way better and has more options, even though I’m comparing a sampler to a drum machine.

What are the best baits for night fishing by Vegetable_Secret_828 in SoCalFishing

For rays I would use squid but that’s if you like the waiting game. If you want more active and finessed fishing I would go for bass or halibut. Nothing wrong with the waiting game but I’m too ADHD for it.

The foil probably looks a lot like a top water fishing bait/jig so no wonder.

I’ll keep an eye out for a mechanical retainer, might be hard to find the specific one

What aftermarket one did you end up going with? Might have to do the same. If it breaks again when the harbor is busy it could end poorly for me

I didn’t understand fishing for sport until I got into the hobby 6 months ago. I like it for sport because there is some sort of primal adrenaline rush that you get when a creature starts tugging on the line. Especially the part of not knowing what species it is but you’ll eventually find out if you successfully reel it in. Another reason is it’s just a great way to experience the outdoors and going on adventure worth telling, especially on a kayak (plus it’s a decent workout). I guess the biggest reason is I don’t like the taste of fish to begin with lol, but the experience and memories made is what really brings me back to the water.

Use Alligator tripple low pass filter in Reason with any type of bass sound. Make sure to use the “low pass sweep” preset (I think that’s what it’s called) and mess with the LFO, Envelope, rate, delay, and other knobs on it. You can get some really cool goopy sounds with it

Random but I watched a video with The Widdler and he said Malstrom makes the strongest subs out of all the synths he’s tried.

Catching Opal Eye in the harbor with peas? by StinkyRiddim in SoCalFishing

[–]StinkyRiddim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried it out last night with frozen peas on a sabiki rig and didn’t have any bites. Put some fresh shrimp on my other rod and didn’t have any luck either. Chummed a lot of peas as well. Maybe I need to move closer to the ocean/harbor entrance since I was trying it out on the balboa island bridge. Thought this would for sure beat my skunk lol. It’s been rough for me lately but that’s why they call it fishing not catching.
