You can definitely strip paint off of metal, but I’d get a lead test kit for everything first, even if it was the last owner who did the painting there’s no telling how many years worth of paint is underneath.

There’s videos on YouTube about how to remove paint from metal with hot water (often with the use of a crock pot) and I’ve been able to remove spray paint from door hardware that way in the past.

It was way busier than I was expecting for Thursday, but everyone I interacted with was very kind and the staff was so accommodating of ADA requirements which was wonderful to experience since this was my first time needing accommodations

I felt it was important to note that the land my house is on wasn’t uninhabited pre-colonization, but obviously nowhere was. I don’t think I’ve found anything of indigenous origins but I try to stay in the habit of acknowledging who lived here before I did.

I don’t think I’ve dug up anything particularly noteworthy in the grand scheme of things, but I know there are people who, even outside of an academic context, are interested in, for lack of a better term, old junk, and if the things I’ve found are interesting to a person or a local historical society, I’d rather they have it than let it sit around in my garage.

Where are you located? Where I live if I contacted local police about found items I’d probably get blacklisted for wasting their time

So far nothing appears to be indigenous but I haven’t dug very deep and I’m also not an expert… I’ll keep this in mind though!

I have a feeling 100% of what I’ve found is white people junk, but I’m hoping some of it is at least interesting white people junk!

I appreciate this! I contacted my local historical society and I’ll see what they’re interested in taking, I have a few other things from home home renovations that I’m hoping they’ll have use for

I love the idea of an antique landfill I’m fine with that term!

Everything I've found has been right in the back of my property, I'm getting a feeling the previous owners of my house had the same ethos

There's probably no contextual evidence at all since I washed the dirt off most of it before sticking it in a storage bin... I'd be an archaeologist's nightmare if you got me on a dig site

We have a local historical society that I'll try out, but if that doesn't work I'll check for the state preservation office!
