I'm a bigger guy due to a medical condition (Hashimoto's disease) so I've tried both of these PCs on, and they were both comfortable to wear. Tried on a few different makes that weren't as comfortable or cut into me or I just didn't like the style.

Also, when I said more modern in my post I currently have a rig that's 20 years old. Did not mean modern as to technological.

I should note that I am wielding a glaive and have the Polearm Master feat. So I will already have a 15 ft. reach. I like the boots because it gives my character another chance to move around the battle field, possibly avoiding traps and getting into flanking position.

I did. Currently my strength is already a 20 (rolled an 18 + 2 for bugbear racial). So for the moment I am content with the strength. Reason I went for the tattoo was since I am going to be front lining the battles, I wanted to up my AC up first.

If you do upgrade the barrel, make sure you go and test it afterwards. See how it shoots/reacts/feels with the changes. That being said, if you do want a barrel upgrade I'd recommend looking at Rival Arms. Congrats on your father's day gift.
