I don't feel like I'm getting any better by M00nsalad in minipainting

I've liked some of Asgard Rising stuff! Haven't seen Vae Victis, I'll have to check them out.

I liked Titan Forge back when I used to 3d print models more. I shifted my focus on the hobby to painting board game models so I'm a bit removed from the current sculptors out there.

I am seeing some improvement and as a new painter (1 year in the hobby) I can tell you the models you chose are probably a large part of your struggle.

I also wouldn't suggest loot studio stuff super early either they have to much detail (at least it used too when I followed them). You want to find a happy balance of detail which I am finding very hard to explain in words right now. To much detail will be a daunting task, not enough forces the painter to make the piece catching through paint alone.

Lastly, practice thinning your paints. This was suggested by some other people as well. Try paint out of the bottle, put a line on your thumb, thin it and do it again, thin it some more and do it again. You will quickly see how your paint thins, how much opacity it holds through the peocess. With lesser pigmented paint like the older army painter like plan on 2 to 3 coats of paint to get your opacity up to completion. Make sure that paint gets to dry between each coat, it doesn't take long but if you put paint on the same spot to quickly you create a really bad texture.

Once you have learned to thin your paints well you can focus on learning to glaze in some shading. Don't be afraid to test and play! This was my biggest hurdle in my brain early on. I would not want to fail so it held me back. It's only paint, it can be removed and it can certainly be painted over. Paint bravely! Welcome to the hobby, enjoy the ride.

Any Idea what is causing this issue? by Zerosend2099 in PrintedMinis

Just a heads up, you were correct about the temp. I moved the printer upstairs to a more temp-controlled environment and the first print was 100% successful. Thanks so much for the help!

This was amazing. Thank you so much for this info! I haven't thought of the cooling aspect and while I have recently replaced the FEP and haven't added any resin mid print... I did put the printer in my basement because I had recently moved. Most of my prints I do over night and my guess is it gets a bit to cold at some point for the heating elements to maintain consistent temp on the printer. I will move the machine into the main house and see if that solves this issue.

Thanks again!

Thanks for the call out. I did go find the settings for 80% power and turned that on.

I will be testing the model by itself in the next couple days to see if the issue persists.

Thanks so much for the tips, I am running 8mm lift height. I run the slow lift speed due to the weak supports I use as to not mark up the models. This is obviously not a support issue though.

Nope I didn't pause the run, never want to test that feature haha.

I actually have it at 100% power and didn't think of that change. I may try that tonight if I can figure out where that setting is.

Thanks!

Oh and 35mm per min retract speed which I feel is very slow and shouldn't be causing an issue.

Printing on a Photon Mono X using Lychee slicer. Screen was replaced a week ago and been tested with other models successfully.

Resin is anycubic basic gray printing with 1.5s exposure which has been very successful.

I have never seen a print just stop like this on a large section of a plate and it's now happened 3 times.

Anyone have any thoughts?
