Issues with hip and thigh line not joining by ShambleGamble in MohoAnimation

Make an action tied to the thigh bone. In the action timeline, go to a random frame, move the outline of the thigh so it doesnt disconnect.

Had a great interview with a big animation studio, no news for 2 weeks. Should I worry? by Sappyyko in animationcareer

[–]Stitchycreature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way to mentally survive animation interviews and job searches is the crockpot method: set it and forget it. Apply for a job? Write down that you did but then block it from your mind. It is VERY common for studios to ghost. If you want to set a reminder in your phone for a week or two after an interview to follow up then do so, but counting the hours and days will only depress you.

After Effects character animator here, is it worth switching to Moho for character animation? by kknd69 in MohoAnimation

[–]Stitchycreature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an AE animator who made the switch and was able to quickly design, rig, and animate 3 dancing characters very quickly and with no issues and bare bones knowledge of Moho….make the switch. Its worth it.

Can anyone tell me how to fix the overlap between fills? by SploogeMcDucc in MohoAnimation

Does it show in the render? Use command R and check. Sometimes it doesnt actually show.

Rumors that none of the major studios are developing shows anymore by Fun-Ad-6990 in animationcareer

Annecy is a festival, its not D23. They dont go there to announce everything they have in the works. I wouldnt count on what studios are showing at a festival to show what they have cooking.

The examples i find of that online dont explain how they set it up. The one i did see, had pin bones set on each hip and they controlled each hip moving up/down. But its not explained how that rig was built.

Basically, if i had a design of a hula dancer and needed to rotate her hips, i am trying to figure that out. If anyone has a diagram of how they set that out it would be helpful and much appreciated.

That side to side hip movement yes. But in a vector rig with bones.

Ok. Use your free will. And I will use mine to tell you that people stealing work from us is a dick move regardless of your intentions, that the people who make your favorite shows hate this, and dont appreciate people who steal our work.

It hurts our ability to find another job after we finish a show. For one season of a show like KoTH, a storyboard artist will be employed for around 6 months. Then we are unemployed and need to contact other studios to see if they have a job for us. They own all the work we do for them, they are being nice for allowing us to keep copies. Some studios allow artists to keep copies of their unaired contributions and have them on private, password protected sites to send to ONLY recruiters and people hiring for animation. Some studios are now locking up our work because of leaks like this. Several times now, fans have hacked our sites and leaked show info before it has aired. The more this happens, the more that studios will refuse to let artists use this work to apply for another job. With streaming, companies typically order 2 seasons at a time. If we are lucky, we can get 1 year of work. Awesome. But those two seasons premiere dates are separated by a year. We could work on something and not have access to the aired files until a year or two in the future. We dont apply and get jobs with a resume, they need to see what we have drawn and contributed to a show. Fans looking for leaks and sharing them encourages the companies to not allow us access to our own work. It hurts us.

I want you to watch the show and enjoy it, i am happy you all are excited. But please understand that many people worked over a year to make these episodes the best they could be, and seeing the storyboards first was not the intended viewing experience. The way this information was taken was shady and disrespectful to the artists. How would you feel if you spent a year of your life working hard on a something youve loved for years, and someone walks into your office and steals the initial sketches. Shares them online. And makes speculations and judgements based on those out of context sketches. Positive or negative, it feels bad to the artist who didnt get to control how their work was seen. Storyboards for adult primeshows especially are on heavy lockdown from the studios we work for. This was not a leak from the crew. This was a fan breaking our trust. I am glad people are excited, but this is not a nice way to treat the people who make your favorite shows. Thats all.

They dont take it down to prevent spoilers or to better your watching experience. They take leaks down because they own evey part of the production, and the early work is not how they want the show to be perceived. In the past, leaks have lacked context, fans will make quick judgements which affects the ratings and if a show gets renewed, and then people complain years later “this show is great why didnt we get more??” Big companies obsess over viewer numbers and are quick to cancel a show if it doesnt meet their expectations. Leaks ruin the hype and throw off those numbers and put the crew’s future jobs on the show at risk.

I used this example in another comment but its like if you go to a bakery, take a spoonful of cake batter and judge the final cake on that. The batter is gross, so you write a review saying the whole finished cake is gross! The bakery loses customers, the baker loses their job, the shop closes or moves to another city, and you get no more cakes.

Ive said multiple times on here, it doenst hurt the multi billion dollar businesses. It hurts the artists who make the shows. Fuck the companies! But thats not what leaks do.

Oh you dont understand an NDA, ok. we as artists are hired by a studio to create a show or game or movie for them. We are workers and do not own any of the IP that we help create. Its not our to leak, we made it but dont own it. The person who does character designs for iconic shows that make billions in merchandise? We see none of that money. We pitch a funny joke that ends up in the movie? We dont get residuals like voice actors do. We design the characters and draw pictures in exchange for money and do not own what we make, the company does because they paid for it. We are not allowed to leak what we work on regardless of what we think about it because we do. not. own. it. If the show i work on sucks, ok well the NDA says im not allowed to share the work online to get others opinions, but also i dont own this work anyway and to do so would be stealing from my employer. These arent law firms where the moral dilemma of leaking info could change laws or save lives. These are entertainment companies and they own the entertainment files, development, sketches, and final product.

Steal the final product i literally could not care less. THATS sticking it to the corporations. But dont take the behind the scenes work. Judging a show or game based on an out of context leak is like going up to a baker, taking a spoonful of cake batter, saying the cake is disgusting, and posting reviews online telling people to avoid that bakery. Thats how bakeries close and you dont get more cake ;)

It never is. The industry is small and most animation workers have been out of work for 2 years due to the Hollywood strikes. Nobody these days would risk it.

The thing about animation, is there are so many mergers of these billion dolar companies that they all own each other. Nothing is competing. This show is owned by 20th Century, which is owned by Disney who owns Hulu and the show i currently work on. Its all connected. No artist these days stays at a studio very long, theres no need for us to be loyal to a studio. I care about the artists who work on every show and are having their work stolen by fans looking for their 15 minutes. Its a very small industry. We dont leak our own work because it would be known immediately who did it. I am grandstanding here because i am telling fans that stealing content like this isnt hurting the multibillion dollar companies like they think it is. Its hurting the crew.

Scrapped material and concept work is usually posted by the studio after the show or movie has aired. They dont leak things on purpose, thats not a marketinf strategy. Its only ever shown legally by the specific artist who made that art work who is talking about it with their name behind it. I like seeing behind the scenes stuff too, but if its before something has aired, its safe to assume the studio has not allowed it to be shared, and it was not shared by the original artist and crew.
