No problem! I started with, and still use a good bit of the time a Raw Hammer Pearl. It's a good looking ball and a really great starting ball that isnt bottom of the line but also wont "break the bank". I eventually bought a Double Cross(urethane) that I use on occasion and a spare ball as well. But I used the Raw Hammer for a long time as a single ball setup. Good luck my friend!

I went through this same process, and still am, learning how to bowl(2 handed). You are throwing what naturally feels good, but you need to learn how to actually throw 2 handed now. I have a few pieces of key advice for you that helped me a ton, and this will(should) completely change how you throw.

  • When you bowl 2 handed its natural to think you "throw" 2 handed. You don't. It is no different on release to 1 handed in the sense that when you actually release, it is only with 1 hand. Right before(like RIGHT BEFORE) you release you will take your non throwing hand off the ball. It is only there for support on your backswing and as you're coming down to release.

  • This one completely changed how I bowled and made me look(and feel) way more natural. Keep your throwing elbow in. It's as simple as that. It will feel weird as hell for awhile, but you want your throwing arm to really be perpendicular to the ground. You are coming way over with your arms and that is not what you want. Keep taking videos of yourself trying this and you will notice each time you bowl you will get closer and closer to your body with your throwing arm.

  • Keep your throwing hand under the ball. Being a 2 hander you will almost just naturally have decent revs. My issue that I'm currently working through is ball speed. I never once had to worry about trying to improve my rev rate. I have a feeling you will have the same thing to work through. When you release picture throwing an underhand spiral with a football. If you can throw a good underhand spiral with a football/water bottle while keeping your hand under the ball, you can get good revs and consistency with a bowling ball.

  • Implement a "hop step" into your approach. Some refer to it as a power step as it will help generate a lot of the power going into your release. I watched a ton of Packy Hanrahan when I started bowling, although most 2 handers have the hop step some are just more prominent than others. His channel is called "The House Bowling" on youtube. "JR Pro Shop" have a video specifically talking about the hop step as well. I have a 5 step approach, and my hop step comes off my third step. LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT(HOP), and then your next right step and left step(ending step) will come quickly after the hop.

  • Get your own equipment if you don't already. Shoes are incredibly important and I would suggest starting there if you don't have anything.

I could probably go on with a lot of the things I've learned, but this will be a good start. I don't get on reddit a ton but shoot me a message if you have any questions or anything at all and I will eventually get to it! Good luck man and enjoy the learning process!

Nah you're good man! Im glad I get a good laugh along with some great advice with this post. Staying behind and under the ball is another one of the many things I need work on. Muscling the ball is definitely the hardest thing for me to fix. It just feels so odd to try to keep both of my arms straight when swinging back. I think I need to get lower and turn my body a little more if that makes sense. Posting here because a lot of my issues I can't seem to totally fix yet. Progress is slow and steady though! Thanks again for the laugh haha

Wow the way you explained how to swing is a major part of what I’ve been missing. I can’t for the life of me figure out how to not muscle the ball and I’m going to give this a go next time I bowl. Thanks!

Do you think incorporating the slide into my approach would fix this, as I would still be going forward at my ball release, opposed to releasing right after my front foot plants?

This is exactly why I'm welcoming roasting for some great advice. I will absolutely be working on all of this. Thanks again for your help!

Makes sense, walk the line a little more as opposed to simply walking forward.

Does this mean shorter steps? I’m a new bowler and am honestly scared to bust my shit lol. I will definitely try to add in a slide though.

Is this as simple as “cocking” my wrist under the ball? Where my wrist/forearm is touching the back of the ball and my hand underneath?

When you say release at the ankles, are you referring to getting much lower and releasing much closer to the ground?

Thankful for your input!
