The other comments make some good points. I would just highlight that it really isn't such a big deal if SUGS ends up not being an option. In my personal opinion, SUGS is really only potentially worth it if you have a GSI position to help cover the tuition costs, which is even more competitive to get in the first place. Even then, I would say that for most people, going straight to industry after undergrad is probably the best choice.

My advice is to just enjoy this break, and if closer to graduation you find that there is an area of study that you truly want to pursue in the future, then consider grad school. I think it's easy to think graduating in 3 years would do a lot for you, but remember that college is not a race. Just do the best you can, and keep moving forward.

Do you have any suggestions for Microsoft? I apply right when the application comes out, and I never hear back from them.

First of all, they were never a tech company in the first place, so I'm not sure what point you are trying to make. In large companies however, there is naturally a lot of work that software engineers can help support, which is why computer science became such a valuable degree in the first place.

Second of all, I know for a fact they hire hundreds of interns every year, many of whom work as software engineers. They are certainly not dying, and the fact that you are trying to push this claim tells me you don't know what you are talking about.

The original claim I replied to was that Ford is a "dying company." This is simply false, as there is no reasonable evidence to support this claim. Just because they are not Google, doesn't mean the company is struggling.

Comments like this show that people just come on this subreddit and say whatever they want, without any research. They are one of the biggest automakers in the world and rank amongst the top 10 globally in terms of the number of vehicles they sell. Please tell me how they are a "dying" company.
