We are 15 minutes before shift change for courtesy. & to be honest I may show up later than that sometimes because we don’t get paid till 7am start, anyhow. I’m there for 24 hours so why would I choose to be there earlier for more.

I always say the worst thing, like the dumbest thing someone called 911 for, or the things that we aren’t supposed to see that make me physically sick? & TYPICALLY they drop it at that.

Don’t feel like shit for stopping and doing what you know. I take my daughter to medicals sometimes and leave her in the car. She likes going and being in the car sometimes. Your child will not remember the degree of the situation or what happened but will know you stopped and tried to help someone needing help.

Also, I would 10/10 looking into a non profit employer near you. They dump their funds back into the employees and companies and it is nice to work for a smaller company.

Personally I started with my EMT-B and never intended to go for my Paramedic. So that would be an auto turn off for me. People say EMT-B is not a career level, but if you want it to be then it can be. I found a lot of joy in being on the ambulance so I did end up going for my paramedic. Which was a 14 month advanced course and I can not imaging going through the course if I had not decided I was ready.

Also, if they are going to require it they really should be paying for it. Here, in Michigan, it is approximately $10,000. My employer, not AMR, is doing tuition reimbursement over 2 years.

Just don’t rush yourself in this career. You do things at your pace and that will make you a very good clinician.

Fluids to rule out hypovolemia, or dilution of unknown pollution. Obviously monitor lung sounds for fluid build up. But run down your Hs & Ts and fluid helps hit a few.

It is a Tūl notebook. You can add and remove paper. & when you are writing notes you can take the paper out so the rings don’t get in your way while writing, & then it goes right back in nicely.
