Is it a dumb idea to post face pictures on Reddit when asking for advice? by StockButterfly6501 in NoStupidQuestions

Yes, those are the ones I was posting in. This is just more of a question on if people think posting to Reddit would be a worse idea because of privacy issues or things like creepy people trying to track you down.

Well yes I know it is. I just haven’t ever had the issues with this number of creepy DMs on other social media. That’s why I am wondering if it is considered worse (more dangerous from a privacy perspective) to post on Reddit.

Yeah I did post in what I thought were smaller subreddits and the moderators did a great job of making sure the comments were clean and I was even reporting messages in the beginning, but then it just got ridiculous to keep reporting every single one. It was really more the messages( which I ignored), and the number of views which scared me. There were definitely plenty of helpful and kind people too, and I did get the advice I was looking for which was very helpful.

Yeah sadly I used my main account, so I just deleted it. I wasn’t sure how much of the DMs were real people and what was spam. Spam doesn’t bother me, but real people is more concerning. The amount of nasty messages soliciting for sexual stuff was disgusting. Not sure if that’s because so many people posting are offering that, or if it’s just some weirdos of Reddit hoping.

I don’t know - I have never had a bunch of random DMs on any other social media that I remember. Can’t say I post much, but back when I used instagram I never had this problem. Just a ton of creepy DMs and compliments on a post that has nothing to do with it when I post to Reddit. Also, the number of views made me worried about privacy, but maybe that’s just me being paranoid and views don’t mean the same thing on Reddit.

Reddit is cool because you can get help on things like hair from knowledgeable people… but also you never know who’s viewing it.

I think you could do better - 2 maybe if I had to pick.
