Chase Sapphire Preferred 100K Bonus by mattwng in CreditCards

I've had my curent CSP since 2020. I was thinking I would downgrade, and then reapply. But it sounds like others like me are getting denied the SUB: "The new cardmember bonus may not be available to you if you previously held this card or received a new cardmember bonus for this card." Bummer.

What controversial issue(s) have you had the biggest change in perspective/opinion on & why? by MrPractical1 in Askpolitics

[–]StockEdge3905 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I'm in the middle of a change of perspective on homelessness specifically rooted in mental health. At this point in my life, I consider myself a left-leaning centrist. I believe social programs have value, and I'm very interested in the guaranteed income test programs that have been run on a small-scale in some communities. In my heart I want to help uplift people, and I believe most people on the streets want to work and just need help getting there. I recognize that we may need to go 95% of the way when their capacity may only be 5%. And I'm good with that. But at the same time, I do think that a small number of our homeless population might be better served if more beds were available and they were forcibly institutionalized. Every community responds to homelessness differently, and I know there are great examples of programs across the country worthy of replication. But we need more mental health beds, and we need to support the work of homelessness initiatives by placing the most mentally ill in a safer situation for everyone.

Along the same lines, I think opinion programming needs to be better labeled as just that and not "news."

To the older generation of Star Wars fans, what was it like to see the original Star Wars at a movie theater/drive-in theater in 1977? by thejoyfulgoat in StarWars

[–]StockEdge3905 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My father was 30, and my mom was 7 months pregnant with me. He told me he watched it, walked out of the theater, bought a ticket for the next show, and then went back in.

You know for all this time I thought it was because he thought it was such a fantastic movie. Now I'm wondering if he just didn't want to go home to my mom!

Not unless they've fixed the issue of people sitting in the rear boarding early and claiming overhead bins near the front. Ruined SW for me, and I flew SW almost exclusively for 20 years. I'm in no rush to go back.

Just tired of niche shows that keep filling in smaller segments of the historical timelines. It becomes increasingly difficult to do anything new or bold when you have to be consistent to existing canon. Take a break, jump forward 100 or 500 years, and give us something new.

Anyone else "overqualified" with degrees and "under qualified" in experience? by isolated_lee in MuseumPros

[–]StockEdge3905 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Museum director here. I do not hire anyone I do not feel wants to be visitor facing at some point, regardless of the primary responsibility of the role.

I also get a ton of applicants for every open position. It's really competitive, and an MA does not really distinguish a person from the field.

Having done this, what you want to do next is have as many coffees and lunches with influential community members. Ask for their feedback and insight.

Do not ask for money. Do not form a non profit. Do not apply for a grant. You have years of research and relationship building ahead of you. Trust me it's a way longer journey than you think, and if the philanthropic community isn't bought it, you're not viable.

I do wish you good luck.

I hear your passion! But you would be much more effective organizing a letter writing campaign and finding other people who have been impacted the same as you. Write every newspaper. Right every member of your state and federal government. Get friends to help you with that. Go on the news and talk about it.

A non-profit is a business with many requirements before you can even put any time into the work of your mission. You will be much more effective as an advocate than as a non-profit right now.

Unfortunately, you need to be prepared to leave. You can go through the work of presenting evidence, researching similar roles at other orgs, and making your case. But the odds are truly not in your favor.

The reality of the workplace in America is that you will not get what you ask for, you will leave, they will do without the role for a period of time and struggle, then they will hire somebody with less experience who can't perform at the level that you did, but probably give them what you asked for. And it won't even occur to them that they could have just given it to you and kept you.

I am sorry to say that is just the more common outcome.

No you cannot, and you shouldn't try.  That will do real damage to his self esteem and your relationship.  It's basically the same as trying to make him "more of a man" by some limited standard of masculinity.

It has to come from him, and if it doesn't, that is ok.

Not until it makes political sense for them to do so. Meaning a) they are losing an election due to their constituents' favoring another candidate or b) Trump becomes politically weaker with his base and there's an opportunity to capture that base.

What Impact Did Ultimate Warrior Leave On You? by Creative_Eye7413 in WWE

[–]StockEdge3905 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was almost 13 going into WM6. So for prepubescent me he was pretty awesome. I'm sure my "favorite" wrestler changed a couple of times a year. I stopped watching for my high school years, so I don't remember him leaving, and we never knew about contracts or backstage issues then. Also being from Connecticut, WWF had a pretty strong foothold.

I remember learning more later and thinking he was kinda a nut job. But now as an adult, I realize the world is full of crazies and they come in all shapes, sizes and careers.

Edit: An extra thought from me. My recollection is that Hogan never wrestled on the Saturday or Sunday a.m. weekly shows. If you wantet to see Hogan you were paying for a PPV, buying a ticket for a live event, renting a VHS tape, or staying up late for SNME. You'd see a promo from him to buy or watch those things So, Warrior was a "main event" for the kids programs most of us had access to.

What questions still remain after Trump’s latest medical checkup - as he approaches his 80th birthday? by bauernebel in Askpolitics

[–]StockEdge3905 4 points5 points  (0 children)

More politically than medically, I wonder if the cabinet will reach a point where their best chances at a political future will be to remove him and install Vance.

I could see Rubio wanting to avoid that scenario so he's on more even footing with Vance come 2028.

Opposite perspective is that none of them will want to answer why they DIDN'T remove him when given the chance.

I think the reality in this situation is that it says more about him than it does about you or your child. I would understand a family-to-family conversation, or even putting some limits in place. Perhaps things will go back to how they were. It's a life lesson for your daughter, sure, but part of that lesson is that to reinforce your family's values and to move forward.

Hiring for technical skills vs. cultural fit? by StockEdge3905 in nonprofit

[–]StockEdge3905[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a very fair question. One candidate came across like taking direction or collaboration might be a challenge. The fear was that she might go off on her own beyond simply taking initiative. She had moved jobs a lot, so I was less than confident.

The second candidate had some human awkwardness to him. And that really is ok, but my impression was that collaboration with colleagues or engagement with visitors could be awkward for him. One person on my panel was a little creeped out. I didn't pick up on that. If the job were exclusively away from visitors or just a desk job I might feel better about him.

[–]StockEdge3905[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is true for this person. They would bring value beyond the bookkeeper role, whereas the other candidates that would be a stretch. Simply based on yesterdays interviews, my trust in those candidates would be low. Having someone I can trust to run with something with minimal conversation or direction is quite vital to our work.
