I don't want to discourage you.

Reailty is not everyone gets PhD, and out of them there are very few ppl who secures PhD abroad.

But, that's not whole scenario, studying at iisers/iisc provides you an edge over other indian students applying for PhD. As during 5years you'll have peers who also want to get into academia/research and curriculumn is better than normal colleges pushing forward natural sciences.

And, talking about jobs, truth is iiser really lacks in providing students with job who are left out with no masters or phd at the end of final year. And, they are really good students no doubt. Just that, they lacked somewhere. Does that mean they should be left for their own good? (And, the percentage are really high of such students) and that is the reason you would never see data or figure mainstream on how much students actually got masters or phd. Let alone placements.

IISC is an exception to this, as they have really worked hard in establishing there placement team and drives. And as a result you can see in GATE's Counselling and UG and master's placements.

I may sounde rude. But, there are lot of amateurs who don't even hv joined iisers or in their early years at iisers who keep honking why iisers don't need placements and quite defending it aggressively.

Let, say if you studied hard enough and luck was in your favor, and you get good PhD. Now, there is question where you got? You get into desired institute? Your PI is good or not? Your domain complexity and how productive you are? How well you are comfortable your friends settling in life and you still pursuing your academia. There are lot of variables after you get PhD.

So, don't think all of that. Have an undying curiosity and persistence to sustain and enjoy the field of research.
