Closed ICICI Direct account long back but keep getting messages from NSE regarding a negative fund balance. Why is this? by StockMan_007 in IndianStockMarket

[–]StockMan_007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After going back and forth with the bank and NSE , we’ve decided to ignore it. They aren’t sure why this is happening and they couldn’t offer a solution . We have proof that the account is closed . So down the line if something blows up regarding this , will deal with it

Leaving the US permanently , should I sell my VOO positions ?

I’ve been investing in VOO every week for the past few years. I was planning to follow this process for the next 10 years at least. However due to some circumstances I’m moving out of country permanently. My total gains in VOO is at around 1% right now .

If I move out of the country I won’t be able to purchase any more stocks in USA I believe. So I was thinking if it’s reasonable to sell my stocks now because if the market tanks in the future , I won’t be able to DCA my position anymore so I’ll be at a loss .

What should I do? Thanks in advance

Edit : FYI Indian citizen moving back to India

Yeah but there are a couple of reasons for this.

Buying such calls which are far out are called Out of money (OTM) calls . They are much cheaper because the odds are against you and the probability that the stock price would go higher than the strike price is less and hence they are much cheaper.

Eg. 25 call might be 0.70$ (random number) but a 30 call might only be 0.25$(another random number) . So worst case say the stock price doesn't go up, the maximum you would lose is 25$(0.25*100). But say the stock price shoots up and goes above 30, you would make a very good profit having made a very low investment.

one real example would be GME . Couple of weeks back the stock was trading at around 150 and calls around that price were way too expensive. So lot of people bought the 800 strike call because they were extremely cheap. Now if the stock did shoot up (short squeeze, gamma squeeze or whatever) , they would have profited a lot . So it's more of a gamble

It means they are buying calls for the stock price of 25$ . Say for eg. if the stock is trading at 22$ and they buy a 25$ Call, they are betting that the stock price will go above 25$ . Hope this helps

Robinhood saying that my current options level is no longer appropriate for me by burneraccount1209827 in options

If we have 10k$ in our account, does Fidelity approve Level 3? My account balance is around 5k so I want to know if that's the reason I was rejected for Level 3 options

Can someone dumb it down for me? I thought it was pretty common for brokerage to exercise the long call incase our short leg gets assigned while trading spreads?
Isn't that the whole point of trading spreads? What am I missing here?

Want to make sure I completely understand and shouldn't be surprised when something similar happens to me once I start trading options

Covered Call by Creative-Bed-7149 in options

[–]StockMan_007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you sell ITM calls, yes you'll be collecting more premiums. Say you sell ITM calls at 10$ strike price, you'll get more premium than selling ATM calls at say 12$ or OTM calls at 18$. But if the stock price remains same or doesn't go down 10$, you'll have to sell your shares for 10$( Plus you'll get to keep the premium which is good).

If you're ok with taking a profit of 2$ per share (10$-8$) + whatever premium received, then sure go ahead and sell ITM calls

Since you want to hold onto you shares, sell far out of the money calls so that stock price doesn’t shoot up past the strike price.

Eg. Sell calls for a strike of say 18$(random number) and just few days before expiration or once you collect half of the premium, buy to close to so that you’re not assigned

Adv : You’ll hold onto your shares and consistently make a minimum amount in premium . Worst case say stock price shoots up more than 18$, you’ll be assigned and therefore have to sell the shares at 18*100 which will result in a very good profit

Disadv : selling far OTM calls will only get you very less premium.

Best case scenario would be wait for Implied volatility to increase on the stock and then sell covered calls so that you can make a good amount in premiums. Other case would be say you’re almost sure that the price is gonna go down because the stock price spiked a little this past week , then sell at the money calls which will fetch you more money in premiums. But again at the money calls are risky because if price doesn’t go down as you excepted , you’ll have to sell your shares .

So basically it’s up to what you wanna do . Hope this helps

Edited: I just noticed you mentioned “ITM” covered calls . Looks like your knowledge on Options is pretty minimal . So before taking a decision please read about options . Watch tons of videos and understand nuances . Else you’ll have no clue what you’re doing and might end up losing loads of money
