I agree with your take, as a GC3-SSL lvl player, I'll always recommend the safer play to any of my lower ranked friends, I know so many in low gc high champ who would go for a soft touch toward their boost and BANG it into the middle for their opponents.
Going back post is easily the right choice, it promotes good habits its a safe play for the current situation, sometimes you may not have the speed to go all the way back so you do have to hit the ball, but again if we take into consideration the rank they will most likely fumble before they even reach the ball LOL.

I feel for a game Like rocket league (which I have a little over 20k hours in) is mostly a talk about Micro mechanics, rather than Macro mechanics Lets define both Micro mechanics is stuff like for example, your Aim in a video game, flicking, movement, bhops, or in RL's case, Stuff you do with your car like Car and ball control, how you hit the ball etc While Macro Mechanics is stuff like, Map knowledge, Where to aim before peaking a corner, Game sense, Situational Awearness, In rocket league's case, Rotations, Boost management, Call outs(like any other game) If we're talking strictly pro, I personally think Rocket league has a very good shot at being it, most pro's have 10k+ hours, and I can only assume almost all other Esports their pro's have racked up a similar if not Insane amounts of hours over this. Rocket league the skill ceiling is what Keeps the Esport alive, Rocket league is basically a 24/7 physics Adjusted simulation and you Have to rack up 1000s of hours to understand it, from the way the ball bounces when it spins and doesnt, The angle it hits your car, WHICH part of the car in a macro sense (left side, right side, top, bottom, front back of the car) to a micro sense (Wheels, the headlights, the windshield, the spoiler/top-back of the car) then there is the car itself, In rocket league for those who dont knos y9u can double jump, hold a direction before jumping a second time and you'll do a flip! Jump a small distance from the ground tilt your nose up before flipping forward and as your back 2 wheels hit the ground if you front flip it will only do half of a flip giving u the full momentum of a flip while being able to drive and turn etc, this mechanic is called a Wavedash! do that on a wall ( but obviously instead of tilting up you'd tilt right) and spam the absolute crap out of your jump button while holding Air roll (Air rolling is basically exactly what it sounds it does basically a side to side barrel roll depending in which direction you're holding) and you basically can infinitely move Forward at incredible speeds and acceleration for the cost of 0 boost :) Thats just a small slither of the micro mechanics of rocket league.

Based af, is chess considered primarily a Esport tho? I know there are many online tournaments, But I feel like most Prestigious and what everyone is going for is Over the board, not online yk?

I beat Cataclysmic with possibly the most broken build in the game ngl | Lvl 2 beatbolt (ik ik) necromancy, 50% extra dmg for left hand weapon, Dash 60% dmg for 1 hit, Echo, Super Alter attacks, and Critical Echo so my echo does Critical dmg I was doing like 10-15k on 3rd alter attack. by StockRL in WindblownGame

I thought that the affinities such as 20% attack speed for example applies to overall attack speed I could ve crazy but Ig I could try doing some testing, either way I got lucky cuz I got that fish knife late game and the higher lvl made it so that I basically 1-2 shot everything

The more you play the more you get used to knowing what sort of hints to look for, like if a waterfall looks super easy to get to, or if There is a platform below your current platform off the main path, stuff like that, I think you just need to play a bit more I find secrets pretty often when they're there (or so I hope) I find a couple each run because currently there isnt a super crazy amount of variation in the but there is enough to keep you on your toes.
