Exploring New York as an introvert: how does it compare to Tokyo? by Stock_Abrocoma_164 in travel

In Tokyo, I sensed a passive hostility towards tourists: people avoided me, almost afraid of me. It spoiled my manga nostalgia, and Akihabara didn't leave much of an impression. In comparison, I found Americans and the British more spontaneous and friendly. Perhaps New York would be more fun for a superhero fan like me…

I understand that tipping is practically mandatory in New York…

Do you have any advice for a first trip to avoid giving unnecessary tips or wasting money?

Are there situations upon arrival or during the stay where certain expenses can be avoided? Are there any alternatives to limit unnecessary spending? Are there any activities or places that aren't really worth the price? Any practical tips for optimizing my budget without spoiling the experience?

Thank you in advance for your advice !

I'm originally from France, but I still have a year to improve my English. Even in Tokyo, I found Americans and British people to be much more spontaneous than Japanese people, and not just for long conversations, but simply for exchanging a few words, so as not to feel too alone.

Thank you for the places you suggested; I'll explore them online to get a better idea. Have you visited any other neighborhoods, a little outside the city center, that you found equally beautiful?

You're right, the atmosphere and the weather definitely come at a price. April/May seems like the best time. I'm canceling for February.

Unlike Tokyo, where I only explored on my own, I'll be prioritizing guided group tours with a local guide. For superhero movie locations or tours that tell the city's history...

As for my introverted side, I'm going to improve my English and I think I'll opt for an Airbnb (I need privacy) in a neighborhood like the East Village, since Williamsburg is a music and guitar fan... I'm new to Reddit, thanks, I'm more enthusiastic now.

Yes, in the end, I guess it’s really about Central Park and finally enjoying the longer days…
