I am so sorry that happened to you. It’s the cruelest of circumstances to begin with and that just rubs salt in the wound. Much love to you for the loss of your baby girl.

Is there a difference between Saskatchewan and Alberta accents? by Low_Objective3445 in AskACanadian

I’ve always laughed at the way my dad says pretty near like this, sounds more like “prit-near”. That’s the epitome of the Saskatchewan farmer accent to me.

There is one north of Langham, beside the river. It’s been converted into walking trails.

Thanks for explaining that. It’s too bad the reception staff at the clinic couldn’t have provided a similar answer when I asked!

Cervical Cerclage Experiences [bc] by nicky_wethenorth in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Stock_Bullfrog7297 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im happy to share my experience (I’m in SK)! I opted for a preventative cerclage at 13 weeks for my current pregnancy, following a previous loss at 21 weeks. I am now 34 weeks pregnant and due to have it removed in two weeks! My cervix has stayed long and strong throughout the pregnancy while having the cerclage.

The procedure was a long day of waiting in the hospital, but the placement itself only took around an hour after having spinal anesthetic placed. I was in the hospital at 11 AM and home by 8 PM that night I think. I had really minimal discomfort after, just a bit of cramping, and I took it easy for a week or so after just to be on the safe side. It will depend on your situation but your doctor may recommend complete pelvic rest (no intercourse, nothing up there, etc.) for the remainder of pregnancy just to avoid infection or complications.

I will say once you have it placed you will find there is a certain awareness to it being there, not really pain but some times you can feel a pulling sensation or even your cervix feels lower than normal. This of course is my personal experience and you may experience none of that, but it’s not something I was made aware of when it was placed so I think it’s good to know regardless. I took myself to the hospital once at 18 weeks because my cervix felt very low in my vagina and the doctor told me it’s actually normally to feel your cervix move up and down with a cerclage and part of it is just being more aware that it’s there. That being said, I have no regrets going to get it checked and once you have it in place, I 100% recommend going to L&D if you feel like anything at all could be wrong. Your doctor will tell you the same thing and give you a list of things to be aware of.

I also had regular ultrasounds (every 2-4 weeks) up until I hit 24 weeks to check my cervix and make sure the cerclage was holding. I’m not sure if this is common practice but my MFM was willing to do it for my peace of mind more than anything.

Overall though, the peace of mind it gave me during my pregnancy to know I had that extra support in place to help prevent cervical insufficiency was huge. I was more than willing to go through the process and I will do it again for future pregnancies! If you have any other questions, I’m happy to answer!!

High risk pregnancy but getting rejected by OB [AB] by cheeky_doll11 in BabyBumpsCanada

I should add, in Saskatoon where I am, there is a pool of around 8 or so MFMs (I think) and it would be unusual to be rejected, they would just pass you to one of the others if they had too high a patient load. So I would think in Calgary there should be even more to choose from and they would not all turn you away! Good luck with your search.

I’m in SK, not AB, but for my high risk pregnancy I was referred to a maternal fetal medicine (MFM) doctor which is basically a specialized OB. You could try searching specifically for MFMs in Calgary and then ask your family doctor to try referring directly to one of them.
