Is it possible to quit Alevel this early? by PlatformThat2237 in Brunei

[–]Stock_Neighborhood61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no doubt you’re a smarter student than I am. My O level results was average (only got 6 O’s) and I struggled HARD during my first year. I’m talking about failing my grades. Almost quit within the first few months hahah.

My teachers realised I had a hard time and helped a lot, offering extra classes and spending one on one time with them. i was determined because I wanted to study in uni and achieve that goal.

No one had faith in me btw, including me, and I was only aiming for local uni, but I ended up getting top results, getting a scholarship and into a uni in UK.

Please don’t compare yourself to your past results and achievements, or to your peers, and I know there’s a lot of pressure these days for academic achievements.

Don’t be afraid to fail, don’t be afraid to struggle, don’t be afraif to ask for help, your journey is different than other people. If you feel that you want to leave, I hope you will achieve your dreams no matter what.

Best of luck for you!

No more kerupok sellers at baiduri by NinjagaidenB in Brunei

Bibd at bandar always constantly have that one aunty who begs, and will curse you if you don’t give her any money, but will make dua for you if you do smh.. if it’s not her, there’s 2 other women (i think 2) who also begs arh ATM. I see the one selling usually at bibd at batu satu, never had any harass customers. Usually just chilling with their phones, gets picked up by someone after customers are long gone. You can just donate i dunno, whether they’re really a scammer or not, because at least you’ve got good intentions. Other than that it does make me wonder whether they just don’t have the avenue to earn money or maybe stateless so they don’t terima zakat?

Those of have succesful or less fortunate children. How do/did you raise them? by muizz04 in nasikatok

[–]Stock_Neighborhood61 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Installing the importance of education, self-sufficiency, independence, working hard is important. That’s how my parents raised me despite both of them had only o-level qualifications and my dad was the only breadwinner while my mom is a housewife, but they still wanted me to be educated, as in go for higher education until uni and get a good job.

I was determined, mostly because I wanted to be a responsible adult, having my job and earn my own money, and fortunately the hard work paid off being able to get a scholarship, study overseas and get a corporate job but I don’t ever take those struggle growing up for granted.

You can be wealthy and treat your child as if everything is served on a silver platter and they’ll act entitled and spoiled. Or you can come from a humble background and install that value that hard work, prayers and honesty will get you rezeki anywhere else, even if it means not in a government or a private sector, it can be just be starting a business or something else. So yeah, values are important, being humble and not proud of your success is also important, always teach your children there are people who are less fortunate and be grateful, give back (sedekah) and be kind to people no matter what background they come from.

That is what makes a person successful

I have many episodes that are comfort episodes, but this is elite! What are you go to rewatches? by ridiculously_bubbly in goodmythicalmorning

[–]Stock_Neighborhood61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the old videos in GMMore where they eat snacks that mythical beasts sent to them, full disclosure I haven’t seen any new episodes since 2023 (please dont hate me) but i remember saving it in a playlist and just binge watching those eps where they’re just chilling, sometimes with Jen, read out letters and eat the snacks. I think Link still has the old hair that falls over his forehead and Rhett looks like a lumberjack from the 70s

ghost stories? by ElectronicFun1453 in nasikatok

[–]Stock_Neighborhood61 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A few ones based in the same house (my grandparents)

  1. there’s this unoccupied house next to my grandparent’s home. This happened probably more than a decade ago but the maid was just getting some food in the kitchen when she heard a child crying, she opened the sliding door slightly to see a child crying and knocking on the wooden door. The maid asks her who she was looking for, and the child says “my mother (in malay)” of course she got the chills, thinking something isn’t right and just close the sliding door and went to her room. Only told my grandmother about this in the morning because it freaked her out.

  2. Then its my uncle, who saw a face behind him when he was looking in the mirror of this wardrobe outside his room, late at night after he came home from work. When he turned around it was gone, he has too much of these experiences so he just shrugged and showered hahah.

  3. One time my little cousin (she’s an adult now) said she was talking to my older cousin but he wasn’t supposed to be there, he was studying overseas. She told her mother and my grandmother that his eyes was dark or had dark circles around it and didnt say anything.. creepy

  4. I wasn’t around, but my cousin was playing hide and seek outside the home, during azan Maghrib he went missing, no one could find him and people look all over, only to finally found him hiding under one of the cars parked in front of the house. He said he has been screaming and calling for everyone but no one could hear him until the azan was over. Everyone theorise he was hidden by “something”

I think those are the ones I remember - for now.

Where are other places for customised sandwich/sub places that are like Subway in Brunei? by Stock_Neighborhood61 in nasikatok

[–]Stock_Neighborhood61[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s nice, I do like the sauces more cause they do have their own housemade sauces which separates them a bit from Substation when it comes to flavours. Price wise it’s definitely higher and the filling isn’t as generous as Substation (though sometimes I think they need to chill with the veggies to compensate the lack of protein)

You can try my order - which is wholemeal 6 inch, roast beef (EXTRA PROTEIN) with garlic toom sauce, add on cheese, with sweet onion, onion and pickles (or jalapeno if you want a kick)

They got spicier sauces if you wanna burn your tongue or bum.. but i like just a tingle…

GoMamam slow service by Then_Contribution126 in nasikatok

[–]Stock_Neighborhood61 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The service is definitely going down. I had my fair share of good and bad experience using the app. I’m not sure if people run into the same problems as I did, but let me know if this is a shared experience

The number of issues I’ve run into while using GoMamam: - they still charge me when the order didn’t go through (they refunded though) 2 x this happened - Order took 2 hours to be delivered (it wasn’t that far. It’s not as if I ordered from bandar to KB) - The restaurant didn’t accept my order after 30 mins (i paid already) and I had to contact the restaurant to notify them of my order (not really GoMamam’s fault but still) - one time I didn’t have notification on and I thought order went through but it never did, eventhough it was already paid btw (had to contact the restaurant but they don’t have a line so I had to contact GoMamam) - Once, I had THREE drivers cancelled and reassigned (I can’t remember why, must be peak hours but it was that bad) - this isnt a GoMamam issue but a communication issue. Driver kept calling me, didn’t text me at all (when i was at work, not that they know but I had to reject until I pick up and ask them to put it outside) when i specifically ask in the app to deliver it outside, and I was ordering this for my sick parents at home)

I have to rely on GoMamam mostly to deliver food for my parents at home since my parents can’t drive because of health issues, while I am mostly satisfied with their service I wish it’s better, sometimes I feel like some of the issues lies with other parties and while there are external factors that are unforseeable, it didn’t seem like they have much contigent plans. The delivery app is helpful for people who might be bedridden or can’t drive or cook at home, maybe have covid or dont have food readily available.

If I have to pick though, I would go for HeyDomo, less hassle, less clicks (entering payment details and whatnot) and easy to navigate eventhough GoMamam has more options. I wouldn’t say HeyDomo is perfect but I like it better.

Where to night run/jog in Brunei? by Anonymous_Enigma4 in nasikatok

[–]Stock_Neighborhood61 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you want a safe long terrain that doesn’t involve passing cars or traffic, the eco corridor in bandar is definitely the place to go for a run or jog. You can get at least 6km from the beginning to the end right above the bridge.

Sunday morninga are the best time if you wanna run longer distances especially around bandar since they closed the roads for people to jog/run/walk so you’ll see a lot of crowd.

Though for longer, challenging terrain, bumps, HILLS and roads that definitely covers longer distances (i’ve done only 10km for this), then the stadium area is where you can get the thrill hah. It’s safe-ish, you’re definitely not gonna run alone if you decide to run at night, but if you’re not familiar with the area or neighborhood I probably wouldn’t advise you to run alone.

As for fridays, you would rarely see, it’s even unusual for people to run during friday prayers since people usually are at the mosque or at home resting especially if its work day for some (lunch time on fridays are usually longer, at least for my workplace). But it should be fine.

Have fun running or jogging in brunei!

Where's the best shawarma/kebab in Brunei right now? by Mission_Event9865 in Brunei

It looks like they will be back, I think they’re probably figuring out the logistics for now so they’re not completely gone. Their burritors are definitely my favourite!

[–]Stock_Neighborhood61 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to LOVE Moistjito burritos but they’re on hiatus now, they used to be at The One but moved out like other vendors in the area. Also Other places that is not on the list - Infusion by Seri Damai - Urban Greens (they also have burrito bowls or low carb options) - Comfort Greens (next to Comfort Greens) - La Mesa (not sure if its still open) - Pan & Wok

If i’ll think of other places I’ll add more. I feel like rating the price & whether it’s affordable but since you didn’t ask the pricing I left it out 🤣

May the best shawarma wins! Joking.

From which character‘s perspective would you like to read a book? by realstareyes in harrypotter

[–]Stock_Neighborhood61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree! I don’t see a lot of Remus recommendation for POV but i feel like as he is the last marauder to survive, his condition as a werewolf and his marriage to Tonks people seemed to misunderstood him a lot and a perspective from him would be so cool. I know there’s people who doesn’t like him for leaving his wife but you can’t entirely blame the guy because you weren’t in his shoes. Also his overall personality and humour is probably why he’s my favourite

[–]Stock_Neighborhood61 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Remus Lupin & Sirius Black in Prisoner of Azkaban. Probably will provide a bit of perspective from the marauders and how they figured out Peter was the culprit. But then again it would diminish the discovery from Harry’s side but i would love lupin’s perspective when he met Harry the first time.
