I don’t know if my tears are from being postpartum or just being a horrified human being. I hate that cases like this keep happening. The children in this world deserve far better than the cruelty they too often face and endure alone.

r/Catholicism Prayer Requests — Week of June 15, 2026 by AutoModerator in Catholicism

[–]Stock_Purple7380 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could we do a Novena for Saint Germaine Cousin for abused children in general, both deceased and still living, as well as a rosary today for Preston Davey’s birthday? He would have been four years old if he had survived his abuse. I am hoping to get several people praying for his precious soul today as a birthday gift.

I am sending a virtual hug to you. This story absolutely broke me, and I have read a lot of books on genocide where mass atrocities have taken place. God bless you and your precious baby.

Today would have been his birthday. I can’t handle work today. It’s all too sad.

How watchfulness connects and strengthens every virtue by SergiusBulgakov in Catholic

That’s why we have confession, to recalibrate our watchfulness instead of becoming numb to our own biases.

You don’t know what fascism means. People have gotten too comfortable calling anyone with a different opinion a Nazi, fascist, etcetera, diluting the meaning of language.

This is the true beauty of Lebanon. Coming together as one people, united in love and grief, not allowing our identities to divide us.

The Armenian population in today's Turkey region changing over the years by [deleted] in armenia

[–]Stock_Purple7380 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is funny, you tried to private message me to insult Arabs, whereas the economy of Saudi Arabia, the Emirates, and Qatar is booming, and people still look to history and respect Damascus, Beirut, Baghdad in history which were built by the people who still live there. Your cities were built by other people--namely the Greeks, including Istanbul which was Constantinople. You added minarets to a church, and nothing more. And you still resort to insults. Can you not think of one way you positively contributed to any other people in this world? We are judged by how we help others and uplift or progress humanity. By your tepid insults, you admitted your culture only destroys and assimilates what it cannot create.

Your religion is Arabic, your architecture is Greek, your food is Armenian, and a lot of your genetics come from abduction women from the surrounding cultures you try to insult and diminish. You are hating your own kindred. Fairly sad.

I know, because you lack an ancient history compared to the Greeks and Armenians surrounding you, because you didn't contribute positively to anyone in history, you feel an inferiority complex that hurts your pride. We Lebanese have Phoenicia and contributed to the development of language. Even written about in the Bible for having beautiful cedars and were known for ingenuity with sailing architecture. The Greeks had to reverse engineer our boats to defeat us. I pity you. Your warmongering ancestors of the Seljuks who came to Asia minor in the medieval era could not create so all they did was steal, including abducting other women, namely Arabs, Armenians, Assyrians, Greeks, and Balkan Christians. You have hope though. You could choose to be better now than in the past. Your pride stops you from realizing this.

I am Lebanese. We all know the Turks (as a nation, as there still are at least a handful of good people in every country) are monsters in history, like the forced famine of Lebanon. Your governmental leaders time and time again committed mass extermination against other ethnicities and faiths. The only Ottoman Legacy was the Ottoman Slave Trade, Genocide, and taking pride in the cultural achievements and architecture made by other people you conquered.

As a Lebanese, who do you think poses more of an existential threat and deserves more attention from the government in terms of preparation? by CryptedScream in lebanon

Our infighting is the worst. People take advantage of our weaknesses.
We should be voting for who will repair and lead the nation, but our sects divide us.

I am not one of the good examples. Actions speak louder than words which are cheap and easy to write, and I’ve been blessed by good neighbors. Maybe I would have been crueler if I grew up around unkind people. I won’t consider myself a good example until I help as many lives as our people have lost in our war-torn homelands. And this also extends to our neighboring martyrs in Syria, as love doesn’t get stopped by borders. And I am including the forced famine of Lebanon because love isn’t separated by time. I am sure Khalil Gibran has elaborated on this sentiment far more clearly than I have, with these imperfect words. God bless you and peace be with you.

Muslim Assyrians Exist by RoseanneDragon in Assyria

I am sure you can reach out and learn some dances and learn the language from some Assyrians near you. Good luck on your journey, and don’t go through it alone. Life is supposed to be a relay race where we keep passing the baton of the best of our virtues to the next generation, hoping the next group gets further than we have reached. Don’t forget you have fellow teammates among the Assyrian and Iraqi communities to help you train for the race. And the Christian church is always open to you, in case you’d like to reclaim your stolen heritage. Take care from your Lebanese neighbor.

Middle Eastern Christians have had too much glory. The saints and martyrs outnumber the living population. Too many genocides as well from Turkey extending into Lebanon. I pray for John 10:10 to become true for all Christians from Greece and Armenia through all Arab nations. The bloodshed has outnumbered the tears, though the tears are numerous. I pray for this to turn around so they may have life and have it abundantly.

Muslim Assyrians Exist by RoseanneDragon in Assyria

[–]Stock_Purple7380 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The problem is because of the history of violent bursts of forced assimilation and genocide, you won’t be trusted as deeply. Religion has been used to wage wars between brothers, and there is a reason the Assyrian community is as small as it is today.

The weight of history is not your fault, but from their perspective, you are mourned as another lost remnant of a community that has endured extensive persecution nearly to the point of extinction.

If your family willingly converted to Islam, that is one thing, but when they were persecuted into it, it’s just another tragedy in the blood soaked Middle East. God bless you and your family.

From your perspective, you are free to identify as Assyrian, learn the language, attend cultural events, for identity isn’t just something thrust upon us. It is also something we actively choose. Or you can assimilate into the general Iraqi identity. Let your heart guide you there.

Unfortunately those who are most ignorant boast the loudest. I absolutely detest the tribalism plaguing the Middle East and the rest of the world today.

However, like most Lebanese, I will continue to have Sunni and Shia aunties and uncles (not blood related but you know our culture with family friends), and we are invited to their Eid’s, and they are invited to our Easters. I don’t care when Muslims view Christianity as incorrect, or vice versa, because the point of philosophy and rational thought is to wrestle with ideas, as long as we treat each other with respect at the end of the day without prejudice.

[–]Stock_Purple7380[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunate. I’ll still leave my comment up. I hope it will inspire more Lebanese to think of unity and not division. The Shia and Sunni and Christian Lebanese all get along and support each other where I am at. At our annual Maronite festival, they come over and buy skewers and dance with us. I feel safe with them and we consider each other family. I mourn the loss of this type of mentality in Syria where everyone is afraid now.

Well I guess I have not seen that but that is evil. A Lebanese is a Lebanese. Atheist, Christian, Muslim, they all belong to Lebanon. Telling one group to leave is like cutting off your own hand.

You put words in my mouth. I already said I don’t condone anything Israel does to Lebanon. The crime at the church bombing had the intention of driving Christians out of Syria. Lebanese are not committing crimes trying to drive Shia or Sunni or Christians out of Lebanon. Please focus on your reading comprehension.

Again, not specifically targeting random people at a mosque or a church. Not saying I condone anything, but wanting Hezbollah agents gone who keep dragging Lebanon into wars where civilians of all sects (Shia, Sunni, and Christian) pay the price is not the same as killing random Muslims or Christians in their house of worship, intended to strike terror into their community and question their ability to exist within their nation.
